    Bunny Breakfast Sausage

So last month I decided to make some breakfast sausage. I normally butcher the buns at 5 lbs. which gets me about 3.5 lbs. of meat per bun. I like to make batches of 25 lbs. and got to thinking how many buns would I need to butcher for 15 lbs. of meat. I decided instead of butchering the buns...

NO more questions about my rabbit recipe

You should use a meat thermometer to tell when your rabbit is done. I cook my rabbits till they reach a internal temp of 170 degrees. I use the thermometer when I am smoking meats and when I am cooking chicken. This way you don't have to cut into the meat.

    ground venison uses?

I'm sure if you don't want to use the venison you may have some friends that would like to have some extra meat. you can also check with any soup kitchens/homeless shelters to see if they have a need for some venison.

    ground venison uses?

Anything you make with ground beef you can use ground venison as a substitute. My family does not buy any beef. We eat venison all year. I process all of our meat. The steaks can be cut into 1/4" slices rolled in flour, egg and cracker crumbs then fried till golden brown on each side. That...

    New Bunnies- Too young?????

The top bun could be a NZ cross depending on what the father was. I have had several that were that color from a NZ red buck. The bottom one looks like a Cali. You will need to wait till they are about 6 months old to breed.

    Cages? Feeder? Hay?

HHRR, I have used large dog crates and added 1/2"X1" wire to the bottom of the crate and set it outside on a wood frame. You need to check Craigslist for cages. In my area I can get cages cheaper than I can build them. My last purchase was a 10 hole, 2'x4' wire coated cage for $100.00. You...

    Heat in nest boxes

Thank you for the info MamaSheepDog and Ladysown. One of the does Chaos has good litters normally 7-8. her last litter was 12. The other doe Snow, has litters of 3. For A NZ that's not very good. The only reason I keep her is because she is a good foster mom. I usually breed both of these...

    Heat in nest boxes

We are having an unseasonably cold spell. Our first snow has dropped over a foot. we normally don't even have snow at Christmas. I have 2 litters due in 2 days and the high will be in the 20's with a low of 1. This is my first year raising rabbits so I need a little help. My Rabbits are in...

    Wondering about Salt Spools

I use both spools. It seems like they lick the salt spool more than the mineral spool. Since I feed a pellet feed they probably get most of their minerals from it. They seem to want to play with the spools more so than lick them.

Some questions about housing and feed

Hi Steve, I have NZ and Calis. I would suggest feeding the rabbits what they can clean up in a 24hr period any more than that and they will start getting fat. I am talking about feeding pellets. I feed a 17% milled pellet from the local feed store. My rabbits eat about 5oz a day. My cages...

    Electric meat grinder, help??

As far as that LEM meat grinder goes it is gear driven and when a part wears out you will only be able to purchase it from one place. unlike the kitchen aid and several other meat grinders that are worm driven and you can find parts from many sources. I have 2 commercial grade Hobart meat...

    Cooking Rabbit Properly

You need to cook rabbit at lower temps. My favorite way to eat rabbit is to use the Shake & Bake Pretzel and bake it in the oven at 375 for about 45 minutes or till it reaches 180 degrees. This is my 6 year olds favorite way to eat it.

    Sick Rabbit

Dood and DogCatMom, Thank you for the information. Unfortinately I'm not going to sue the vet. I did not know that about the amoxicillin, but now that I have this website to refer to ( Medirabbit.com) I will share that info with the vet. The injections that were given to Oreo were Unasyn...

    Slaughter idea, need input.

Kyle, Using a nail gun to kill the rabbit would not be a good idea. You would have to hold the gun down against the rabbits head in order for the plunger to be pushed down when you pull the trigger to fire the nail. I built a rabbit wringer. I used a 1 foot piece of 2" angle iron and...

    Big baby?

I know he looks big, but I think he is about the right size at this age for the breed. I have 8 NZ/Holland Lop mixes at 14 days they weighed 1/2 lb. and 3 NZ/NZ Red at 2 weeks weighed 1 Lb. Both litters born the same day. They are now 6 weeks old and the 3 weigh 3 Lbs. The 8 weigh 2 1/2Lbs.
