First butchering

*Update- I put the rabbit in the crockpot today with potatoes, carrots, onions and cream of mushroom soup. I cooked him for 6 hours on low heat. It turned out pretty good. The meat literally fell off the bone and tasted pretty darn amazing! Both my kids inhaled it. I can't wait until the...

    First butchering

I honestly think that's the way it should be. My animals get the absolute best care I know how to provide until the day they die. After that they help nourish my family and my carnivorous pets. I as well very much appreciate the atmosphere around here!

__________ Wed Oct 31, 2012...

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of those 6. Thankfully the majority lived!

    Force Moulting

Is there a way to offset the soft poops while feeding increased amounts of cm? She's such an awesome little doe, I know she'll do well if I can get her to this show. If she doesn't molt out by show time, I'll breed her over the winter and try again in the spring.

    Force Moulting

Thank you! I'll increase the BOSS and slowly increase the calf manna. What are the guidelines for easing into the cm?

    Force Moulting

I have been too and none of mine have molted. It really makes me wonder how much you have to feed for them to molt. How much do you feed?

That's a great philosophy! Are all 12 kits from one doe?

__________ Wed Oct 31, 2012 4:19 pm __________

Apology accepted. :) He's so beautiful, he gets called a girl pretty often. Lol!

    Force Moulting

How much BOSS would you recommend to induce molt? She is currently getting around 1tsp. I eyeball it so somedays she might get less and somedays might be more.

    Force Moulting

Hi all! I have recently been reading that calf manna will induce moulting in rabbits, but can't find anywhere that says how much to feed for this. Do I just feed according to the general guidelines on the back of the bag? I have a chocolate otter jr mini rex doe that is over her weight limit...

    First butchering

When I was out giving the rabbits their evening meal, I decided to double check the sex of the doe trio in one of my hutches. Turns out Tara was actually a buck. I already have 3 bucks so we decided it was freezer day for him. My husband did the honors while I finished feeding the others...

how to get them to breed???

I have heard that ACV in their water helps. You could also try giving them RRL. It is said to boost the buck's fertility and get the doe's uterus ready. I hope my suggestions help! Hopefully someone else will weigh in as well. :)

    Starting My Mini Rex Herd

Thanks everyone! I have decided on Red Hot (the other buck). I am going to pick him up tomorrow, along with one of the chocolate otter does, a black otter doe, and a lilac otter doe. I will also be entering all of the new rabbits in an upcoming show in November and then breeding Red Hot to...

    Starting My Mini Rex Herd

Thank you both for your honest opinions. :) Bayside isn't the only buck they have available so I'll take a good hard look at the others as well. I definitely want to be sure I start out with the very best I have access to. In fact, there's another black otter that is younger with 3 legs that I...

    Starting My Mini Rex Herd

I am sooooo excited! After months of searching and countless hours talking to different breeders, I have finally found my mini rex buck. He is a black otter with 7 legs at a year and a half of age. I am hoping to also pick up a couple chocolate otter does from the same breeder and then...

    Greetings! :D

I don't have any of my equipment anymore. When my dad died I sold off 30ish rabbits and their cages/feeders etc. The fall before my dad died I sold off over 2/3 of my herd in the hopes of introducing new lines. That was also when I started with the Jersey Wooleys. The founding Mini Rex buck...

    Greetings! :D

Ok, I am extremely, super duper sorry about my taking forever to get back on here. My husband's very elderly grandmother fell in her driveway and hit her head so I've been trying to help her out. Also, I have been trying to contact mini rex breeders around here to get some purebreds for...

    Greetings! :D

Hi, My name is Lindsey and I come to you from Nebraska (Omaha). I have just recently gotten into meat rabbits. Before I had Mini Rex and Jersey Wooly buns that I showed heavily. At my most productive, I had a little over 200 rabbits. I sold out of those in 2005 when my dad died. I...
