    I finally did it - Dispatch/Process

Today was the day I was dreading, my first dispatch and processing day. I've been building up my Silver Fox breeding stock quickly, have three beautiful does coming in via transport on the 17th (and all being bred for me) from a couple of rabbitries and needed cage space. Of my original three...

Hello. I am new to rabbit talk.

Welcome neighbor! Nice to see another Silver Fox breeder here!

    New here

I'd love to utilize the pelts as well but being new to raising rabbits and meat production, for now I'll just dehydrate them for dog treats until I have a good rhythm down. But I am hoping by next year to start delving into tanning. I'd love a Silver Fox blanket!

    New here

Welcome! I really like the Champagnes, I was torn between them and Silver Foxes. I ultimately went with the SF myself but those Champagnes sure have beautiful furs!

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

Thank you! I go every 3 to 4 days on the trays for the individuals and I'm up to every other day right now for the doe with kits and I suspect in another week it will be daily.

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

I like this idea but unfortunately, not an option for me. We have 80 acres but it's steep and uneven timberland and mostly heavily wooded. We had to escavate just to get an open and level spot for the 10x20 building that is my rabbitry. There is lawn down on the front end of the property but...

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

Oh, and the trays....yes, I do forsee setting up a gutter system in the future as dumping/cleaning those will get old quick. But I've ramped up quickly in my "acquisitions" and now I'm beginning to get the real feel of what is working, what I know I need to make more efficient/easier, etc. so I...

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

Yes, they do all get on really well and even the two runts have made great strides in closing the gap in weight. They're all eating hay and pellets along with mom and drinking well, but weaning enteritis and mastitis worry me so i want to lessen those risks where I can. And they do still all...

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

Hahaha! But I had forgotten about how exactly your cages were because I was so enamored and distracted by your rabbits!

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

Ooh, you gave me an idea...I could build short wire tunnels between between adjacent cages with a removable divider. I'll have to think on that...

Q: Cage Size for Doe w/Kits

Hi everyone! Another newbie question if you would please entertain... My first litter is now 4 1/2 weeks old and (knock on wood) all 9 littles are doing great. They are in a 30x36 cage, nesting box out, two shelves added (untreated pine) and have an extra feeder and water bowl which are cleaned...

Do you find it soothing when petting your rabbit?

I had an extremely stressful week last week work wise and was on the edge of completely losing my temper with a difficult co-worker. First time in a while I had to step away from my desk for a bit to bring my stress and aggravation down some notches and I headed straight out to the bunny barn (I...

Butchering Question--Resting the Meat from Rigor Mortis

Thank you for that explanation. It helped me greatly. I will need to dispatch my first litter in a couple of months and I couldn't tell with the videos I had seen if having a harsh angle or little/no angle was correct method. I just pray I don't mess up and cause any rabbits undue suffering and...

    Rabbits and chickens

Racken house...it's a thing. I don't believe there's an issue housing a rabbit cage/hutch in with chickens in and of itself as long as there is plenty of ventilation and minimal dust (Although chickens are very dusty and maybe use hemp in coop versus pine shavings to cut down on that - did he...

Hi all! What have you been doing lately?

I'm so tired I can't see straight. Yesterday I worked my job all day, rabbit chores, cleaned out Momma's nest box (kits are 10 days today), made two weeks worth of raw dog food plus prepped organs for the next six weeks of food in freezer (I need a good grinder 🙄), then built a stacked set of...

Intro - New Member from Middle TN

Ha! It was great meeting you both as well. I'm so thrilled with Ruger and he's doing really well, definitely happy to be in the building...your setup gave great inspiration. We got the thermostatically controlled louvered exhaust fan installed and operating yesterday and have been keeping good...
