It could be because hen 1 is the dominant, therefore getting more food, therefore healthier. If you want hen 2 to lay soon, in order to ensure that she does actually lay, feed her some pumpkin separate from the others. She'll get the nutrients needed to lay, and will not have to compete for that food.

so to make sure I understand your question

hen 1 is NOT producing and is getting fat?
hen 2 is laying eggs?

if so, just like with rabbits. too much fat creates issues. Rabbits produce less kits. Hens won't lay eggs.

So put hen 1 on a diet and increase her amount of exercise.

thank you
Yes that is what i am saying
I will try that

I had a hen that stopped laying, and got extremly fat. So she got an invitation for dinner.

What a disappointment, turned out that she was actually skinny but had one huge mass made up of dozens of eggs in her (no shells), she somehow produced them but didn't get them out.

So I would check if something about her anatomy feels off.

we gave them pumpkin and they both ate it but hen 1 is NOT laying and is FAT while hen 2 is skinny and laying

Has the fat one ever laid? When did she stop? Are they the same breed? Does the fat one have a bright red comb or is it paler? Is there any chance she is molting?
