Hi everyone! I'm getting into breeding Netherland Dwarf rabbits, and I'm building my own hutch. Can I use 1/2" x 1/2" welded mesh? And is 16 gauge or 14 gauge better? I don't really have any places around me where I can get the standard 1" x 1/2" so what would you recommend? Thanks!

The smaller the number of gauge, the larger the wire. From what I have seen, the larger the wire the better to avoid sore feet, so I would go with the 14 gauge if it's available.

Yes I figured that out after some research 😊 I’m more asking about the size of the mesh, like is 1/2” x 1/2” okay?

1/2" x 1/2" should be fine for dwarfs. The larger 1" x 1/2" just allows for bigger poops from larger rabbits to fall through more easily; our Polish and Mini Rex have been fine on the wire with smaller openings. It's also a little easier on their feet since more of the foot is supported, and on bunnies just coming out of the nest, whose tiny feel often fall right through the 1"x 1/2" wire until they figure out how to walk on it.

Great thank you! And I’m not quite sure yet but later I may also get into Holland Lops later on, would that be okay for them too since they are a dwarf breed as well?
