Who is this little kit?

She's from a REW sire, so the color is from the dam's genotype... She's Millie, a Chestnut French Angora. A_ B_ C_ Dd Ee. (maybe Ese?... see the grand-dam note...)

The grand-dam is an Opal (but, there is a Steel up the line with no ee to clear it out..., so maybe an Opal Steel?)
The grand-sire is a Sable (cchl).

Since I don't know if cchd is possible, but I cannot rule it out... How will I know if this kit is showing cchd or cchl?

Thanks!

I haven't found enough reference photos of kits, but I can drop a few hints I guess.
When he grows up, shaded + c usually results in what I call "incomplete" sable chinchilla, where the flanks and cheeks lighten up and points and back may become darker.
If there's any seals or non-sabled silver-tipped steels, he's probably regular chinchilla. However, if there's any sables, then he's sable chin.
This is the only incomplete sable adult+kit I found after a quick search. I'm guessing he's the one facing the camera. Even as a kit, this one has a bit of faded sides: http://www.rabbitcolors.info/int/en/ent ... tml?id=743

It can be very difficult to tell a chinchilla from sable agouti - however, often the sables are more of a dark chocolate tipped instead of black but not always.

If you test breed to a black who carries Himilayan or REW and get any sables (aa __ cchl_ __ __) then you know you've got a sable agouti

Sable is very rare in meat breeds so most of those chinchilla coloured kits are chin :) while in small breeds chinchilla is rarer so many of those "chinchillas" are really sable agouti

Since his sire is a REW, then he is a _c, so I'll look for the signs. Thanks!

__________ Fri Jan 16, 2015 7:11 pm __________

Thanks. Boy, I could test to a REW. But, what if I get a bunch of Sables that look Chinchilla and still can't figure it out? More meat, I guess.

it kinda looks like a sable Chinchilla to me but the inside of the ears are not dark. It's not a smoked pearl (aka blue sable)

here is a smoked pearl I have:

I don't have a picture of my sable chinchilla I'll have to take them tomorrow!

Oh my! I MEANT Smoked Pearl Chinchilla, not Smoked Pearl. I'm not familiar enough with these colors and didn't say the right one... I knew she was Agouti, but hadn't realized that Smoke Pearl was Self... Oops! But, I agree, she looks less Blue and more Sable (B, right for Sable?)....

Thank you!

Edited because I must be tired and look pretty stupid...

I meant Sable Chinchilla, not Smoked Pearl Chinchilla.

Smoked Pearl Chinchilla? I don't think that's a color (or the right word of it). The doe in the middle on my other post is a Blue Sable Chinchilla (aka Sable Squirrel. Squirrel being a blue chinchilla) I don't think this kit is blue, it has black lacing around the ears and white on the inside so not steeled. you may just have to wait to see what happens when it gets older.

more pics?

I edited it. I did mean Sable Chinchilla... but boy am I tired....

__________ Sat Jan 17, 2015 8:42 am __________

Thanks for your input, everyone. I think she must be a Sable Chinchilla. So nice to have people like you guys to work out colors with me! :)
