So i call this one our rescue bunny. She was just given by someone to my cousin and i was stressing about her health. Luckily after about 4 days she was ready to move her along lol. So i told her i would take her and be there asap. She is the most pretty lion head. doe love all her fur most pet quality ones look single mane or no maned. And i think she is a tort. So my daughter has a new project. Where going to get a buck and bred tell we can get pedigreed babies. Is there a way to decide on age? I was told 6 months but then someone was selling a 5 month old buck and he still looked like a baby. So im wondering if she is older or they other people where trying to sell there animals at a wrong age.

She is a cutie!

Her face looks like a tort but she not a trypical one and in the pic it appears like she has a lot of black hairs dispersed in her coat giving the appearance of a chestnut/agouti.

Because their teeth grow continuously it is nearly impossible to age a rabbit, but at 5 months a Lionhead should be nearly full grown and weigh 3-5 pounds which could look like a baby if you are use to larger rabbits that are that big at 8 weeks.

Pretty rabbit :)

I have no idea about lionheads, so can't help you with the questions.

She looks to be older (her mane looks to have molted into sr already and she has a clear saddle etc) (i would guess 6+months:).
And ya she looks to be a dark tort (one of my torts looks that way but she changes through winter etc).
She's really cute though I love lionheads!!!:)

Many lionheads can shed their saddles as early as 3mths, while some don't start shedding their saddles until much later(I had one doe who didn't start shedding her saddle until 5mths). As well, most show quality lionheads are done growing between 2.5 and 3.5lbs... a 5lb lionhead is majorly oversized, and in my opinion, not breeding quality. Unfortunately, there's no real way to tell her age, other than seeing if she is done growing or not.

With this doe, it looks like you need a small buck with tiny ears and a great break, and a LOT of mane. She doesn't look like she has much, if any, break - which is an area of normal hair separating skirt from mane. Her ears are long - she is probably a false dwarf, so you would want a true dwarf buck to breed her to. Her mane looks a little sparse, but that could be from mats being removed and breakage due to improper feeding and care.

But that's all just my 2 bits, and you can take it or leave it :)

Thanks guys :). I think she is older but was not sure. The pic quality is bad I know but I'm pretty sure she is a tort. And I'm sure she is over sized a little lol. She is atleast 3 pounds. Thanks for the info on what we need to improve. because to me she is perfect. Lol. not even sure how to pose them. Where going to start hunting for a small buck to go with her. But for know to see if she will breed where going to bred her to robins Hl.

__________ Mon Nov 18, 2013 11:27 am __________

Here is a face shot of her not the best might get her out today and do better pics
