View attachment Marilla.jpgI wrote this version of "A Visit from St. Nicholas" last evening to share with family members and thought some of you might get a chuckle out of it too. It stars Marilla, our beloved moggie... The cat in my avatar. Rilla is the heart of our home. :)

A Visit From St. Nickomouse

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

Marilla was snuggled in her Maggie's lap

With blankies to keep her all cosy and wrapp'd,

When out in the kitchen there came a small clatter,

Rilla sprang from her nest to see what was the matter!

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Cast shadows of mousies on objects below.

They looked quite fearsome to our poor little puss

But everyone knows that Rilla's no wuss...

She crept into the room on velvet-soft feet,

Determined to catch them, no matter how fleet.

When what to her wondering eyes should appear

But mousies with antlers like tiny reindeer!

She shook her head slowly; could it be that she dreamed?

But those beasties were certainly reindeer, it seemed!

No bigger than usual mousies, she swore,

But undoubtedly those were antlers they wore!

Then all in an instant she saw the big mouse,

And she knew who it was who had come to her house!

He was dressed all in red from his feet to his head,

And she decided at once he was nothing to dread.

It must be St. Nickomouse, she made a shrewd guess,

With his toys and his treats, good mousies to bless...

Back to her nest she crept without noise…

She knew even mousies need some Christmas joys!

She slipped under her blankies, feeling slightly shame-faced,

As she pondered how yummy that big mouse would taste.

But she heard him exclaim ere he drove out of sight --

“Happy Christmas to all, and to Rilla, good-night!”

Oh, how adorable! I just read it to my family. Do you happen to know any artists that could illustrate that for you? It would make an absolutely charming children's book! I would certainly buy a copy.

Have a joyous day, everybody!
