    Poultry/Rabbit Exemption in Texas

I never did, we have since relocated to the Hill Country and I have too much on my plate to pursue it at this time. The dept. that handles this was more than happy to send me the info for free... it's just packed in a box at the moment. And it was basically just common sense stuff, like any food...

    Canning rabbit?

eh... we don't age the meat before canning. 90 minutes in the pressure canner does the trick no matter what. We raw pack, with no added liquid, and no seasoning. We add those when we open and feel that gives more flexibility with using the meat. YMMV... :pancake:

How do two white rabbits make a black rabbit?

since it is "impossible" that the REW pairing produced a black rabbit it had to be someone else.

What is the best meat breed?

I have New Zealand Reds and Blacks, as well as Californians.... the Californians are awesome for meat production, excellent shoulders and good muscle throughout. The NZ Blacks when crossed with CA are, in my opinion, equal to the NZW and CA cross that many people consider ideal. The NZ Reds...

    bloody mess

I use a v notched board for cervical dislocation, very similar to rabbit wringer in theory. But I find if I am careful with the placement of the animal I get very little shoulder bruising. It is generally limited to the neck itself, which is understandable. Have to make sure the rabbit does not...

    I don't think she's bred.

Again, it just depends on the individual buck. I don't think the water bottles will cool the body temp down enough themselves, but depending on the humidity level the mister might (I live in El Paso, my evap coolers aren't working real well right now, even in the house).

    I don't think she's bred.

Heat sterility is an individual thing... younger bucks come back sooner than older, generally. Some don't come back at all, some might take a week, some a month, some a couple of months.

Hairless Bunny, what would you pay?

it's actually Texas A&M Kingsville... Dr. Steven Lukefahr that is doing the experiment. He's the lead guy that developed the Altex as well.

    Carrier cage tray question

yeah, it probably is, thinking of fabricating a "homemade" alternative.

    Carrier cage tray question

Got a couple cheap carrier cages today... but they are different looking than the ones I have seen. They have a slide in tray... the one that I had before had a spring loaded connections and the whole cage sits inside of it. Anyone seen one like this? I am afraid that the urine will overshoot...

    Packaging for Freezer Camp

yes, uncooked bones. You will notice that that is not a fryer rabbit he is deboning there. I had great success on a roaster, tried it on a fryer... still worked, but ended up with three or four separate pieces, not a nice rolled roast like that.

    Packaging for Freezer Camp

The dog should be able to eat any raw bone on the animal. I have used the water method you describe on other meats and sausage as well, it works pretty well.
