    I made a Rabbit App

I have had rabbits for over a decade, mostly meat production. We kept rabbit records on paper, just like most of the books tell you to. After several years, the paper started mounting up and it was difficult to get information to compare rabbits at a glance. For a while, we entered things into...

    sprouts vs fodder

How much were you feeding of each type? I tend to feed 3-5% of body-weight, depending on the animal. For sprouts, that means more seed, as I typically get 3 lbs of sprouts to 1 lb of grain. For Fodder, I get 5-6 lbs of fodder per lb of grain. So, I tend to go through twice as much seed as...

    Mini Colonies in cages

yeah, all of my does get along, so I will try and match up compatible ones with similar habits. That part should be fairly easy. Introducing or switching might be an issue, we will see.

    Mini Colonies in cages

I've had a colony going for about 5 years, now. I keep all my does together, then wean kits at six weeks, and weaned kits are in a colony until they are butcher size (usually 12 weeks). I have 2 bucks, and they have their own pens. I am going to be transitioning to a different system this...

Protein adjustments, sprouted grains vs fodder

Protein values will change, depending on the mix. I do know that if you sprout it, you will have more protein than the original grain, but I don't know how much. Wheat is around 12%, I believe, not sure about lentils. Sprouted wheat should get to 16% pretty easily, maybe even higher.

    my new colony setup

Very cool! I am transitioning to mini colonies in cages with underground shelters, and I may try a multi-level approach like this. Give them a bit more room while taking up the same floor space, I like it!

    Fodder sprouting systems, anyone?

you should seed 1lb per square foot of tray. 11" by 22" should have about 2 lbs. The seeds should not be more than 1/2" deep.

Anyone try growing forage during Winter?

I grow wheat fodder in my dining room, takes about 2-3 square feet of space for all of my rabbits.

    Fodder sprouting systems, anyone?

I have been doing research, trying to find grains that I can grow in the summer, as our temps get up to 80F in the house most of the time. I am growing wheat fodder in the winter, and I have done it for the past few winters. I just got a small (8 watt) pump and timer to water my trays...

    Rabbits vs Guinea Pigs

a lot depends on your climate. In my climate, we are just now getting to days below 70F, so the guinea pigs would still be just fine.

    sprouts vs fodder

mulberries grow pretty fast, and even after the second year of planting, you can start harvesting leaves.

    sprouts vs fodder

mulberry leaves have a lot of protein, so that doesn't surprise me. They are an excellent fodder plant, and every rabbitry should have a dozen trees around for that reason.

    sprouts vs fodder

Do they seem to be eating it all without an issue? Are you feeding anything else? I have some sprouts going, I think I am going to try them and see what they think. Also, I am considering doing a feed trial. Take 3 litters from different does, mix them up, and split them into 3 groups...
