I must be a "real" rabbit person now...

I frequently dream about my rabbits getting out, or being in the wrong cages, or there being too many of them that I'd lost track of and I can't figure it all out... Somebody let them out or put them away wrong and now there are breedings I didn't know about, litters all mixed up, promising kits...

    Rabbit theft!

I agree that morally (and should be legally), a crime is always always ALWAYS the fault of the person who chooses to commit it. Maybe this feeling is just "I should have done more", as I knew this was a possibility. That cage is locked now, you better believe it. That's pretty much why I...

    Rabbit theft!

Thanks, Kyle. The strangest thing is, I'm not really even mad about it. Yeah, they trespassed in my yard and stole my dinner, but it was sort of my fault, and it was "only" some meat mutts (if they'd gotten my Silver Foxes you bet I'd be pissed). These kits are almost 4 weeks now, so it's...

    Rabbit theft!

Came home from work today and found a cage door hanging open and only two kits in there with mom ... uh oh! There had been 7! It's the ONLY cage without a lock on it (or was; I put one on there now) just due to not getting around to it. So I went out back in the alley and asked the...

    Mason Jar lid question

Fillmore Container sells a variety of one-piece lids. This is just one of them that might work for you: (http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/G70-CT ... -P269.aspx) They ain't exactly cheap, in quantity, but certainly easier to use than the two piece ones, and there's less for folks to lose. And...

doe gave birth and look at what i found

I've had things like this on a couple of occasions, and I don't rebreed my does the next day/later in the day, so it's not a second pregnancy thing. I just figured they didn't finish cooking for one reason or another. SB

    Silver fox advice...more..haha (pics buried)

Glad to see this thread is still going on. Just saw RothsRabbits' pictures, and I really like the depth of color on both the blue and the chocolate. I'm bookmarking your website for the next time I'm in your area, or when (eventually) I get moved back down there. Georgia, right? Whereabouts? SB

    NZR- breed or colour?

Yes, officially and (mostly) practically the same breed, in several colors. But the reds are rarely bred with the other colors, so they are more distinct genetically than, say, a black and a blue. SB

cage partially or completely made of wood slats/twigs?

My first thought was the same on a floor of branches (or any kind of wood): "They'll eat it". Those hanging buckets are so cool. Many people give them a piece of ceramic, wood, or plastic to rest on, with or without drainage holes. Some rabbits tend to make a big mess of them. When it's...

    Mousse de foie de lapin

It's a great cookbook. Sometimes complicated (though not always, as here), but all the little steps & effort are worth it. I think it's the fiddly little bits that make the difference between an ok stew and a fantastic coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon. SB

    Mousse de foie de lapin

Oh hot damn, this is some good stuff. I used the recipe "Mousse de foie de volaille" (Chicken liver mousse) from the first volume of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and it is FANTASTIC. Basically, you sautee nice things and livers and blend them up with cream and spices. More-or-less...

What Pet Rabbit forums have taught me

ladysown, will you share this knowledge with us? So the rest of us don't have to go sort through the pet sites too? If there's a deficit in some area of information here, I'd love to see it corrected. SB

Construction advice for rabbitry on concrete

All right, I'm getting some good ideas here. The drainage concern is for urine. The concrete is all sloped towards a small drain in the center, but I need to put the rabbits along a wall so they're not annoyingly in the way. If a couple of inches of dirt will absorb urine without getting...

Construction advice for rabbitry on concrete

Thanks for the suggestions, mystang. If you have concrete under dirt under your cages, what is the liquid drainage situation like? I was just thinking of building boxes in place under there, with removeable fronts like a compost bin, so it would look nice between shoveling it out, and...

Construction advice for rabbitry on concrete

Howdy, folks! So, I'll be building a new rabbitry (small - 5-6 cages) in a couple of months, and I already have some ideas for how to improve my current system. But the new space has some new & different challenges, too, so I'm hoping y'all can help me brainstorm. The main challenge is that...
