Two pairs (mother/daughter and 2 sisters from another dame, but they could go back and forth when they were babies, so they know my other doe) kept separately except for during lawn time. currently. But hoping be able to put all my does together in a large free roam enclosure at some point...
I have a bonded sister pair that lived together with their neutered brother for a year with no problems. They are currently separated. One now bonded with her daughter (she has since had and weaned a litter with her daughter in the pen. I also attempted to put two of her adult nieces who came...
I need some help sexing this litter. I lost a little confidence after mis-sexing a kit from my last litter (I said was male and the vet says is female). They are six week old Holland lops. Sorry for the video...I had a child photographer 😅. TIA!
I have a litter that seems a bit muddled and I need help identifying. Dad is seal buck and mom is broken chestnut. I was gone for a week, and what I thought were clear cut harlequin, magpie, and blue self all look more shaded. The blue has white ticking coming in at her pints on on her back...
Your litter looks a lot like a litter I had that was born in February. I was surprised by my first sable! He was dark gray and now at four months he has dark brown points and lovely sable flanks. The last pic, the darkest kit is the sable point, the broken is a broken sable, but she has stayed...
I say it depends on your set up. Are they in cages? I have seen breeders turn the nestbox on its side with great success, usually at three weeks or when they start exploring. Babies still use it as a hideout and mama can still head in to feed. It also gives mama another level to hangout. I take...
I agree with @KelleyBee shelving babies is a common practice. They only need to feed their young 1-2 times in a 24-hr period. I would bring the whole nest box with babies inside during the day. For the kits that aren't getting fed, you can take the bigger ones out when you put the box back at...
I think I understand your situation. I have seen those cages with an attached nest box where the floors of both are level. Glad you were able to add a bit of a barricade to the entrance! I would be surprised if she ignores her kits. It's kind of a misunderstanding that rabbits will abandon their...
In addition to frozen water bottles and ceramic tiles, I freeze water in used containers (like sour cream or yogurt) and put the whole ice cube in their water bowl. Some days it doesn't last long, but it provides cold water in the hotter parts of the day. This year I'll set up box fans too.
I would put a barrier on the inside of the cage blocking the exit, like a board or wire, so you can still reach in over the board, but they are less likely to run straight out.
