Many of my rabbits like to go in their food bowls. No matter the location in the cage. It's frustrating but I just accept that some need their bowls cleaned daily and treat it as a quirk.
It can definitely throw the mom off and distract her from the kits especially if shes particularly sensitive or a new mom. Have you noticed any behavior changes in her? Is she showing no interest in the babies at all? I would consider fostering if possible. If you cant foster and the mom isnt...
Thank you for your advice and sharing your story. It helped me feel less guilty. I'm sorry about Cinnabun. Some does just cant handle breeding for whatever reason. Narrow pelvis etc. And sometimes something just goes wrong. Baby gets stuck, something tears, etc. I'm glad you havent lost any does...
You may also find the color "frosty" or "ermine" or "pointed" (depending on who you ask) to be intriguing if you like white rabbits but worry about pink eyes getting in the way of sales.

This is a good point. They're all individuals and you cant ever be sure of what will happen when you alter the hormones and natural processes in an animals body.
This sort of thing came about with the change of people seeing their animals as animals, to seeing them as members of the family. People feel that we go to the doctor and get all sorts of things done, so our animals do it too. Theres usually scientific evidence behind vet recommendations...
I think they do tend to be a bit calmer and the males spray less. But I'd never spend that kind of money to do it. I dont keep rabbits in pairs anymore and I advise people not to fall for that myth that they need another rabbit. I've seen way too many behavioral problems and fights when rabbits...
