I googled it immediately after and what I read told me it was most likely an excess of beta carotene so I wasn't too concerned.
I'm still not going to give her carrots for a bit until it clears out (to rule out for sure a more serious problem).
Thanks!
Hey all.
So the past few days I have noticed what I thought was blood in the litter box, but my lionhead doe and her 3 6-week old babies had all been acting fine, so I wasn't too concerned.
Also, with the 4 rabbits in one cage, I wasn't able to isolate who had been releasing the...
it wasn't stuck though- she just pushed him out like that a day and a half after the other 3. I'm confused.
But the other 3 are fine so I'm not too concerned over this loss.
Was very happy to see 3 healthy babies in the nest on sunday night, but just a half hour ago my Juliette started grunting and delivered a dead kit.
The kit had no skin on his hind quarters- very strange? Didn't look like he'd been chewed or anything, more like he'd never grown skin on his...
Thanks, everyone.
I did take a few pictures when I checked them but momma was anxious so I just checked real quick to make sure there wasn't any dead kits or leftover afterbirths and such. I will check more thoroughly later to make sure they are getting fed.
yep, there's 3 little wriggly babies in there. She jumped out of the cage and proceeded to pace the floor around it until I backed off, but she is fine now after a treat.
I didn't want to check right when I found them last night because I wasn't sure if she had more on the way or not.
But I read somewhere about washing your hands first, wearing gloves, etc? I don't want to do something wrong and lose them. But all 3 I could see were moving last night- now...
Some of you may remember my problem with the stuck kit in february? those 2 babies died, unfortunately.
But, my little Juliette had 3 healthy looking wriggling babies last night! I went to bed after I discovered them a little before midnight (didn't want to disturb her, she is in my room) but...
She did have a separate nest box on the other side of her cage (you can see a bit of the wood in the picture on the left)- she built a nest with pulled fur and all. When she first went into labor, she was in the nest box pushing for a good half hour or so before she probably overheated and...
I only gave her one more tums before I went to bed, but she did have another kit while I was asleep. This one appeared to be healthy and was much smaller than the one yesterday but she kindled in the litter pan again so I'm guessing it was born live but then caught a chill.
She's back to...
thanks all for the suggestions- unfortunately I do not have access to the buck right now as he belongs to a friend. I have my sister's mini lop but he is almost twice her size.
she didn't have another kit as of yet, but she isn't straining or anything so maybe she is done, though she only ate...
