We've got 2 litters including more sables in the boxes just in time for another blizzard. Negative temps tomorrow night. Better nests this time though. Hopefully I will return with pics of live kits. I've got someone who's been waiting for 2 netherlands for 3 months as well.

i hope it goes well and that the storm is all hype. The weather alert seems to be cancelled around here, but the winds are fierce.

Wind isn't an issue at least. They are on the floor of a stall in a large building. I actually wish it got more air flow all through the summer. It's kind of dead in the stalls with the doors shut.

Storm is already a reality here. We have 5-7" of snow over a layer of ice and the temp is plummeting.

Sounds like you have made the changes you could ... only other thing would be to drape a cloth over the cages to help hold the bunnies heat in. But, if the stall/barn are not drafty, then they should have a good chance at surviving. Good luck!

Bummer. It got cold cold here but no real snow.

They survived the blizzard. Looks like a perfect 50/50 split of sable and seal with 8 total kits. 2 kind of runts. They aren't well fed but they've been fed in the past 24 hrs and they are sleek coated which I've found coat condition tells you just as much about how well they are being fed as how fat they are. Some of my does never feed their kits to round but always have sleek coats and healthy kits with no losses.

Beautiful babies Akane... so glad everyone made it :D

Is there any chance you could post a picture of the parents? I tried looking up 'seal' and 'sable' rabbits on google but found an array of colors! I would of guessed they were blue and black (to my uneducated eye). Very interesting!!

I don't have adult pictures. I need to get on that but here is the buck and doe when I got them at 3 and 6 months old.

They also produce himi/cali that we call a pointed white since sable requires 1 himi gene and 1 sable gene. 2 sable genes is a seal so you have to mix it with something. They used californians to bring back the nearly extinct American Sable breed.

Absolutely adorable!

I look forward to when I can start getting into the "genetics" of rabbit colors.

They're gorgeous, Akane! :p

:congratulations:

I'm so happy they made it despite the weather. :)

6 left. Must have lost the 2 runts. I'm thinking the 2 silvery ones slightly to the bottom of the pic are sables and the plain dark ones are seals so 2 sables.

They have a silver sheen over the tips of their fur unlike the other 4.

They are trouble. I haven't had such hyper kits. One lept out of the box in to the yard and took off while I was carrying them inside. Then I tried to use the cat tower again for pics but they bounced off it and one went under a book shelf with a very heavy item on it. I had to drag him out by his ear because that's all I could reach. My mom finally found an empty box so I could get them out and take pictures.

Congrats! They are very adorable! :D Congrats on them surviving the blizzard too!

They are lovely. The color change picts will be so fascinating. I can't wait to breed my seal doe, she's just 8 mos so she should be ready in a month or so.
