Hi Everyone!

All of us who raise wool rabbits know that they are a bit harder to put a color to sometimes as the wool tends to have that washed out look. So my idea is this, we should all try to help each other, and anyone else who needs it, out! If you have a certain color, post a picture of it, and if you know the genetics, add it as a caption to the photo. That would give us all something to look at instead of most websites that just give a description. What do you say? :D

I only have one now really with the Angora, so can't be of much help yet, but I have several with the JW and the Wool is basically the same as Angora.

Here are some color examples

Actually, you might be surprised to learn that the satin angora chinchilla is only an F2, only 3/4 purebred. He's the best chin I've ever had. My pure chins aren't that nice.

Is my blue still blue? He was born on Mothers Day this year. He is on his second coat and this is what I am seeing now.

Looks blue to me. It's in the face, not the wool. The wool causes the pigment to be dispersed, so my black has black-gray white wool on his body, but is face is black.

I have noticed that black otters don't get the orange tent until after 2 months.

Dood helped me figure it out. He looks like a smoked pearl (aaB_cchl_dd_E_), but he throws chinchillas (mom is a REW ...cc... So no chance of chins there) so instead of he cchl gene that smoked pearls have, he has a cchd. So, therefore, he is a self chinchilla of the blue variety. :) that also means that his 'pearl' kits are actually sallanders, and his 'seal' kits must actually be self black chins, but I haven't seen breeding results from those kits yet, so I'm waiting for confirmation on that.

I always wondered what a self rabbit with the chin gene would look like, didn't occur to me that I had one sitting in my rabbitry the whole time :D

Thought you might want to make that distinction. Because it is not a recognized color, someone might think Chins are selfs without an explanation. I have self chins, not any Woolys, I finally got on with brown eyes, so it's barely distinguishable from the Seal.

And I'm wondering about this too, since there is no self gray color. Looks like a black, unless there are some other genes at play here as well.

My pride and joy... Orange (agouti), French Angora buck. This little guy, Bunaby Jones, is the brightest and cleanest color orange I have gotten. First pic is Bunaby as a kit and second is as a senior. (AaBbC_D_ee)
