So some rabbit breeders avoid corn in feed with more vehemence than they avoid certain things in their own diet. But what exactly is wrong with corn? Is it just that it's high-energy, high-sugar junk food?

There are three things that I don't like about corn:
1. It is low in protein and high in empty calories.
2. It seems to carry a higher risk of mycotoxins than other grains.
3. There is some indication that the outer shell may contribute to impacted GI tracts.

Wheat, oats and barley are all better choices for rabbits, in my opinion.

The breeder I got my FG's from said I should start giving them corn so that they will grow big? I too have heard never to feed corn but didnt know why, thanks for the explanation Maggie! I do not plan on giving mine corn. I think they are growing just fine without it, I want them to be big because of muscles not fat
