A friend is slaughtering a silkie rooster, and wants to know if I want the feathers for lining rabbit nests. Is this ok, or would there be a problem, like allergies or the kits chewing them and choking?

MaggieJ often mentions feathers as alternative nesting material for does who don't pull enough fur. I think the down would be best since the quills can be sharp. You could strip the vanes from the quills if you have the patience to do so.

Silkie feathers are pretty soft, except the wing feathers. I think most of them would be just fine. I am still using goose feathers (the small, half-down body feathers) from a mean gander we slaughtered in 2006. They work fine and I think Silkie would be just as effective.
