re-breeding right after kindling

hi I haven't posted for awhile I took my breeding program down to one buck and two does because I inherited a wrecked cottage and I've been focused on rebuilding it. I want to trade my rex buck to a friend for a new buck, my question is I want one more litter out of him, I usually keep my kits in with their mom until the mom gets annoyed (about 5 weeks for one, 6 weeks for the other) the doe I want to breed him with usually wants her kits in with her for 6 weeks, I usually give my does a few weeks between weaning and breeding, I've read that some ppl rebreed immediately so it should be fine to rebreed her a week after she gave birth right? she gave birth last week if I rebreed her now i'll need to wean then at 4 weeks, how long before she gives birth should I wean? on her day 28 or or a few days before that? on her day 28 her kits will be 5 weeks old. i'll give her a long break after this I don't want her to be spent too early like I said I don't usually rebreed so quick but I want one more half rex litter sorry if this sounds stupid

You can rebreed immediately after kindling. I don't know of any harm in waiting a few weeks. I've read possible decreased litter size if you wait months between breeding, but anecdotally, my oops litter was from a doe who had not been bred for at least a year, she's 3 years old and she had 9... so... I'd say it mostly depends on the doe.

After kindling the does are VERY receptive but I don't know how she'll feel a week later and might not cooperate

If she is in good form I see no reason not to breeder her soon after kindling and giving her extra time after the second litter to get back up to condition will help

If your doe is an early nest builder then you can leave the kits in until she shows signs she's gonna kindle otherwise I'd remove them on day 28 of the pregnancy

oh thank you guys she was ready to go the few days after she kindled I didn't know if it was god or bad to rebreed right after but next time i'll let her have buck time when she shows signs of excitement, I hope she'll breed again a week after kindling, live and learn should have breed her last week. big learning curve so this site helps a lot! both does have learned to be perfect mothers. last year they each lost a couple per litter but this year they haven't lost one.

I re bred my doe two weeks after kindling. I did notice when I pet her the day after kindling she raised her hind quarters up when I stroked her so I figuured she was ready. I may try another doe immediately after kindling and see how that works.

JMHO - if you want the kits to do well, you should leave them with the doe at least 5 weeks, if you want the doe to do well, she should have a week to rest and rebuild mammary gland structure etc. between early weening [less then 6 weeks] and kindling

Depends on the doe. Some can back to back breed with no visible problems for most of the year. Some need a considerable break. I have not found it is black or white. Not all kits grow any slower or have any more chance of health problems weaning at 4weeks. Some like to wean them on to pellets asap saying they grow faster and some like to leave them on milk as long as possible saying they grow faster. I had many doing a litter every 4-5weeks in colony and some in cages. I never lost a kit after it was hopping around. I have a doe now that nearly plucks herself bald and loses a lot of condition if bred too close together and her kits suffered soft stools and grew slower. It depends on the rabbits.

I agree with this - One size does not fit all.
