I misplaced my hard copy of nest box plans-- have no idea where in the web I found them- perhaps someone knows---

Basically, it was a diagram, on how to cut one sheet of 4x8 plywood, and get 10 boxes out of it, with minimal to no wasted wood!!! The floors of the boxes were to be made of wire--

Anyone ever run across the plans/site?

:hmm: FOUND IT!!!

That's a neat page, and will be great for those wondering how to make one! :D I will just add that if you are in a cold climate, remember to make the bottom solid, or add a removable solid bottom. When we first started out, and our very first nestbox had the mess bottom, and we lost our whole first litter because they froze, the mess bottom held no warmth in for them.

We also add an extra lip to the front part where they hop in.........a belly scraper kinda, it helps scrape off any babies that cling on mommas belly when she hops out after nursing. I think it's like 1 3/4" wide.

I did find some plans to make a nest box with a slide out, pegboard bottom. (University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension page)

years ago, when I made a bunch from the first plans-- I put cardboard cutouts as liners during the cooler weather. And yes, the kit scrapers are wonderful-- but few plans actually include them in the cut sheets! I like having nest boxes with a 'top' on them-- the does seem to find the tops to be the 'perfect' place for observing while protecting, their babies... I am off now to find another sort of nest box-- one that is more of a 'hidey-hole'-- no 'tipping' needed...

These are the nest boxes I built and they measure about 8"w x 8"h x 11"l and will suit any medium size does.
