again i apologize if this sounds really dumb but theres an old wives tale i was told to leave the doe and buck together for an hour so she doesnt pee out the sperm, i usually do it but today i barely have time between shifts i saw him finish 3 times then put her back in her hutch, should i repeat tomorrow because i wasnt able to give them an hour together?

Old wives tale.
Last doe I bred was with the buck about four and a half minutes, she is pregnant.

Good grief :groooan:

ALL female mammals have 3 orifaces "down there" 1 for poop, 1 pee and 1 for babies to come out of and never the 3 shall meet - so no, females cannot pee out sperm, just like they cannot poop out sperm (well not in conventional reproduction but let's not go there  )

lol okay reading it back it does sound profoundly silly, i'm a girl so i shoudl have realized its not the same hole lol i think the old guys have some fun with me i'll believe anything

__________ Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:26 pm __________

do you guys usually repeat a couple hours later or the next day just to be sure or is seeing him finish a couple times good enough, i'm trading him this weekend and want to make sure i have one more of his litters

I use to but then I got more does and started breeding 2 or 3 does at the same time so they only get one shot so the buck won't run out :)

I still get litters of 8+ and does getting pregnant as planned

When the doe is receptive, she'll stand easily for the buck. ((and fast))
I usually try to breed the does in the mornings.

If I have the time I try to place her with the buck around 6 hours later and
let them breed once more. If you do that, your conception percentages
increase dramatically.

I've read in many places on this site about the next morning, the next day,
so on and so on. The doe ovulates between 5-8 hours after copulation.
What's the point for a 'morning-after'?

These guys have covered it, and it isn't necessary at all (nor necessarily effective, if she's been bred) to put them together again the next day, especially if you saw he completed the deed. However, if it's going to weigh on your mind because he's going & you won't have another chance, it shouldn't hurt to put them together once more. Doing something unnecessary can be a blessing if it lets you sleep peacefully through the night, sometimes. Just keep an eye on them because sometimes my gals want to smack the snot out of the buck after they're successfully bred & they have no interest in his attentions.

It is a myth that has been around for quite some time. Don't feel bad. I recently asked about something a long-time breeder told me, and it was a myth, too (he said that if I bred my purebreds to a buck of a different breed in order to keep them active while waiting to get a new buck, then it would take something like five litters before the kits from those does would be purebreds again).

I've heard that one too, i'm known to be gullible in all area of life but hobby farming i'm the worst lol someone asked me how to breed and I told them to read this site rather than get my advice lol who knows what I would have passed on to them, I should know better all the old wives tales about my quail have turned out to be false( males won't accept a new female unless they were raised together, nope he'll take any female anytime lol)

thanks for the help everyone both does lifted for him they must be in the mood cause its finally nice out! (i'm in southwestern Ontario) happy spring

Cow's and mares both can be said to have just two "openings" depending on how you look at it. One for feces and one for reproduction and urination. However, the opening for the bladder is lower in the vagina than the cervix so it would still be impossible to pee out the semen unless it was deposited very near the opening of the vagina. I can see how such a myth could easily start though. You breed your mare. She urinates directly after and then "misses".
