I thought I'd share some photos of our Jack Russell's,

This is Zenith she's 16 years old (will be 17 this year)

Gotta love those JRTs! My handsome boy is a smooth coat- less trouble with foxtails that way!

Buffy has a crappy coat but Nemo and Zenith have proper rough coats, I have never had any trouble with anything sticking in them. Right now they are ungroomed from the winter and the fact that Zenith is now a little sensitive to grooming.

Buffy's coat makes her look like a little wheaten terrier! :)

I imagine the rough would be more tolerant of cold temps? Chase often needs to wear a coat in the winter when outside- if not he wont stay out for more than a few minutes- if he will even deign to set foot out the door!

There shouldn't be any difference between the three coats except for the face area. We *had* another JR named Rainey who had a lightly broken coat who almost looked smooth and she didn't really care about the weather, IF she was going for a walk. But they all get picky when its wet or cold if they are being FORCED to go use the bathroom outside!!! If there is something afoot then they could care less and if something is in the water then sooo what? but if the dew is on the grass then its freak out city LOL

Unfortunately Buffy has a triple coat or the undercoat has two different lengths.. the longer undercoat pretty much is the same as her guard coat or even longer in parts which makes it pretty much impossible to strip it out properly so I have resorted to shaving and scissor trims..
