I'm discussing things with someone and this got brought up. I didn't know for sure (I've been told yes and no on two different occasions elsewhere) so I figured I'd ask. :)

I have heard you can. They just produce a lot less of it! My woolies are only 2 lbs. lol As long as the staple length is 2 inches I believe it can be spun.

My distress over Holland Lops having "no purpose" other than "I like them" made a friend suggest a "utility" dwarf breed...and I'm more than happy to try and spin little Jersey Woolies wool! ;) Ergo, I will keep my Holland buck as a housepet and keep a pair or trio of Jerseys for fun, for show and for...well, sorta in theory for their wool. Hey, it makes me feel like they're useful so I can "justify" 'em, even if they produce next to nothing.

Plus being tiny, I mean SUPER tiny, I could keep 'em in a cage block with trays in the house proper, so they'd be able to like...come out and be played with on a very regular basis. I find them absolutely adorable. ;)

I used to have a Jersey...I tried to spin its fiber once with a drop spindle...it kinda worked. But I have no skill at spinning and I only tried it once. I'm sure someone with a lot more practice then me would be successful.

I have never been scratched by one of mine. They are like little stuffed animals. I can't help but kiss my rew doe on the nose when i pick her up. :)

a couple of the jerseys have wool longer than a couple of the angoras

one of the things i am looking forward to on my year off is finally really learning to spin :)

I have spun both my angora & j. wooly's wool using a drop spindle.
The hardest part for me of doing it is that the wool is so soft & fine that it is sometimes hard to handle.
I find it much easier to handle if I use a mix with either alpaca or sheep wool.
Even easier I sell it on ebay
