So I tattooed the 6 week olds a couple days ago. Used the clamp and the ink I bought at a rabbit show a couple months ago.

Checked the tattoos today and they are virtually unreadable and gone. ACK!

This is what I did:
1. swabbed the ear with alcohol
2. lined up the clamp on the ear and squeezed hard.
3. rubbed ink over the tattoo and kind of "in it" too, if you know what I mean
4. wiped off a little of the excess

What on earth did I do wrong? And what do I do now?

I swab the ear with alcohol.
Put ink across it to prime it.
Clamp, put more ink on it.
Wipe it with Prep H.

Use human tattoo ink.

The best thing now is to get someone with a pen to go over it.

We have one that did that too (was bought from someone that way though). I am planning on going over it with the tattoo pen I just ordered tonight when it comes in.

I rarely ever got good results with the clamp, which is why I bought a pen instead.

I never liked the idea of "priming" the ear with ink first because then the needles get ink on them and it is hard to clean off. It might make a better tat, though.

Kuro Sumi black outlining ink is what I was recommended to buy when I called and spoke to a tattoo artist at a human tattoo parlor. I have found it lasts without fading, and makes a very dark tattoo.
