I've never noticed my milking doe to have tits this big. She also has never pulled this much fur off of them. She had a litter of 5 one week ago, 2 died. Is this normal?

She is a 13 lb. Newzealand.

i've seen them quite large. :) they do look larger since they really stand out though. Just keep a watch that she doesn't have issues.

Poor girl. I too, would keep an eye on them for mastitis. I would watch for hard or hot. I had one doe get a hardish teat and I kept putting babies in that teat first before I would let them free nurse. It took 3-4 days but the swelling and hardness went down and it's been normal since.

-- Thu Mar 06, 2014 7:57 pm --

Oh and PS, I was just thinking of the google catalog. Some poor person is going to search for large.. uh "teats" and this thread will come up! hahahahahahaha

Yes, good point. I edited the titles.

Once again, I am super thankful to have you all at my finger tips for great advice. I've had rabbits for 1 year now and you all have helped me sooo much already. I had to work today but my awesome wife pulled momma out of cage today this morning and let babies feed on the swollen teats. It seemed to help. We have been keeping the kits inside because of the cold weather. We lost our last litter that was born in the cold. Now we are paranoid and bring momma in to have babies and keep babies inside except to feed in the morning. My wife said this morning when she put nesting box in cage, momma didn't get in to feed.... that was weird. That's why she took momma out to force feed. She said the teats felt firm. I'm going to try this again in the morning and also let her only eat hay.

Sorry about the original title name... but then again... if some pervert is googling something like that... I think it would be great, and kinda funny if that picture popped up instead of what they were hoping for. haha.

Thanks again rabbit talk friends! If you think of anymore tips..... do tell. I'll update her big O teat condition as it go's.

Mastitis can be really dangerous, life threatening.
The symptoms are an obviously uncomfortable bunny, firm very warm feeling teats, and discoloration.

The best way I know to treat it or stop it progressing is to empty those udders as quickly and as often as possible.
Perhaps additional nursing sessions where the babies are placed on those teats first?
I've seen being able to express the rabbit milk by hand being mentioned on here. I've never tried that, but maybe someone else can chime in?
And finally, you also might consider an rabbit safe antibiotic or a trip to the vet.

No worries. I mainly edited it because with internet access becoming more restrictive in some countries (U.K. I'm looking at you here  ), I'd hate to see RT blocked by porn filters. That said, it probably already is in some places, since we encourage the use of proper anatomical terms here.

Best of luck with your rabbits! Unfortunately I don't have much to add on the subject at hand.
