    Thoughts on moving bunnies.

Have you got any transportation cages, or could you modify your cages to transport sizes? If you have wire cages you could disassemble and collapse them for easier transportation, and just keep one, divided into 3-6 sections (I'm not sure how big your rabbits are), for travelling with. I would...

Doe gone crazy after lost litter?

One of my does was acting the same way after her kits were removed for weaning. Within two days she was just a stamping, huffing, growling tornado of hormones. I just assumed she was begging for breeding, but I did check her vent and it was about the darkest angriest purple I've ever seen...

    Bucks Picking at their Fur

I've looked it up before, and it's on the USDA's list of acceptable organic products, provided you use it at or below the dosage given on the bag, and only use it for a specific reason rather than all the time as a preventative.

    Bucks Picking at their Fur

Totally talking out of my rear here, but do they always get that much spinach? My extremely limited understanding of spinach, kale, and some other dark leafy greens is that they have a chemical that can cause skin irritation and tingling when consumed in large amounts. Maybe they're just chewin'...

    Hair loss on ears

I'm sorry, but this is one of the funniest posts I've ever read here. Ever. I feel sorry for all the poor rabbits (I'm treating a new doe who came with a bonus mite infection myself), but that is genius, and also hilarious.

Got my first rabbits today! A few questions.

My rabbits all went from sort of aloof to "GET OVER HERE. NOW. OPEN CAGE. GOOD. TREATS. NOW. TREATS. NOW!!!!" as soon as I invested in a 50 lb bag of calf manna. I mix it 50/50 with BOSS and feed a hearty tablespoon a day to nursing does, growing kits, and pregnant does in their last two weeks...

How do I split up a litter? EDIT: One down :(

Thanks Miss M, that makes a lot of sense. I was worried that there's some magic hour of the day, and if there aren't kits there at that time they won't be nursed at all. Now that I think about it I realize that's silly, the doe's gotta be desperate to get rid of all that milk if she has to wait...

How do I split up a litter? EDIT: One down :(

One of my satin does just kindled 12 kits, eight of which are pretty good sized, two of which are a little smaller than the eight, and two of which are very small. All look fed at move well at 24 hours old. I had bred her sister at the same time so I could foster in case of a mega litter, but...

    Does not building nests

Don't worry about handling the babies or messing with the nests if they're really shoddy, but be prepared for the doe to wreck your work if you make her nest "nicer" for her. They're still in the window of time where they could start pulling fur and working on the nest, so don't write them off...

Doe either not getting pregnant or is absorbing the babies?

You have a lot more patience than I do. I would move along and try Prim out, but stick to three strikes with Prim before totally changing up your lines. I breed two does at a time for fostering and grow out organization, and I just can't keep taking risks on does who aren't going to pull their...

    PICS! Velma's first litter!

You got some excellent producers there, for a bunch of first timers! I got so excited for your upcoming litters that I had convinced myself my does were due the same day, imagine my frustration when I realized they're actually due Monday :? I figured it out when I used this website that has...

    Help me name my harlequin

I had to look it up last week when I wanted to use it myself  Wikipedia wins a zillion cool points? At least we all knew who a Harley Quinn is, right? We gotta get some points for that! I still plan on using Harleen, Frances, and Quinzel for the buns I hold back for my tri-color...

    Help me name my harlequin

Oh what a pretty thing! My new harlequin satin doe is named Harlow, because that's what my phone autocorrected "harle" to when I was sending pictures of her. I can't say I see the resemblance to the actress, but the bucks sure do seem wild about her. I don't normally name my rabbits, the bucks...

what age to butcher for meat AND pelt

Now how did that never occur to me!? I just happen to have an amazing meat grinder, and an equally amazingly old doe processed! May I hijack this thread slightly for the same question but with satins? I've only just started dabbling in pelts, and this is my first trio of satins. I've got a...

    Getting sentimental...

Everyone here raises excellent points, but I think the most obvious part of it all is worth stating: Every rabbit is going to die. In the rare instances that a person has been really horrified that I could kill a rabbit I remind them that rabbits are not immortal. The alternative isn't life...

HELP!! BOTH does suddenly digging out their pellets!!

Forgive me, I just got back from the pet section of a grocery store. $5 for two pounds of pet bedding that cost $5 per 70 pound bale at the feed store earlier today... My mind was ready to believe any exorbitant price. Just don't strangle the little dears before Saturday, is all I can say. It...

HELP!! BOTH does suddenly digging out their pellets!!

Maybe their mother did it too because she also had an owner like me who had to learn the hard way. I don't know exactly how long a rabbit's memory is, but I bet they store away knowledge of the location of treats in the longest term memory they've got. Who knows if these two were rewarded for...

HELP!! BOTH does suddenly digging out their pellets!!

One of my does digs when she's pregnant, and I've got a litter right now who discovered the joy of digging in pellets a couple of days ago. Since in both cases the feeders aren't near the potty corners I just pop a bowl underneath and re-use it. I check on them often enough that usually nothing...

    Weight gain for babies

There's so much variation even within breeds, I dunno how you'd get a chart for normal growth. For example, I've got a litter of NZW cross kits the same weight as some satin kits born a week earlier, 50% bigger than NZW kits born the same day, and twice the size of a litter from the same buck a...
