Please help- Coccidia

Hm. Well, the vet said everything looks healthy, except the heart which was the cause of death. She said that coloring was due to something bursting. She agreed that if the rabbit got extremely scared, then it could burst a blood vessel or something in the heart. She said that the poop I'd found...

    Please help- Coccidia

Thanks!!! He was eating a natural diet. Alfalfa hay, wheat grain, and greens that I identified and knew were safe. All the other rabbits eat the exact same thing.... The diarrhea I found looked like a small amount of poop smeared on his rear end. I never found any diarrhea in his run or hutch...

    Please help- Coccidia

Thanks!! So, the vet said a similar thing about there being coccidia in the environment and it only is a problem when the rabbits display symptoms i.e. when there's a high amount of coccidia. She also said that she wouldn't want to treat unless the others show symptoms because the treatment is...

    Please help- Coccidia

I haven't been on rabbittalk in a very long time... but I know how helpful everyone can be. I just had an adult rabbit (Zodiac) die last night. I found him this morning, and it looks like he had diarrhea. :( He was perfectly normal just yesterday. So, I'm thinking it is coccidiosis. I will be...

A long trip, and new rabbits!!-*update: Am I going near you?

Oh cool, thanks RJ. And I will post pictures as soon as I get them! :D Also, if anyone has a Silver Fox or Standard Rex rabbitry nearby those places, I'd LOVE to visit and buy from you guys, if I can work your location into my route (which I can probably do)! I'd much rather go to an...

How do you tell when your does are mature enough to breed?

How do you know when your does reach maturity and can be bred? I've always just waited a long time- 6 months or so- but I have a doe (Silver Fox) that I want bred as soon as possible. She's a little over 4 months old. With bucks, it's obvious when their parts drop out. But with does, I have no...

    Failed Breeding... suggestions?

OK, thanks everyone! I didn't realize that some bucks simply don't fall off. I have palpated before- and I've felt babies,I just couldn't count them... Today I tried again. She sat still for him, and cuddled, but didn't lift. He didn't really even try mounting, just cuddling. So, maybe the...

    Failed Breeding... suggestions?

Thanks for that advice. I do have another doe I want bred to him (it would be her first time breeding though...). I'll just keep trying. But is it OK to continue to try for a few days? I thought there might be a problem with having eggs fertilized at different times... or is there no way that...

    Failed Breeding... suggestions?

So, I want to breed my proven doe (she's had 2 litters) to my buck who hasn't had any successful breedings. They were bred a month ago, but it was unsuccessful (he mounted 3 times, never fell off. I thought maybe it took, so I waited, and now I know she's not pregnant.) The doe's privates are...

Ideas of ID-ing kits in a colony?

I have a colony set up, but haven't bred two does at once. You should be able to see them each building a nest, right? Although, be aware that either doe might grunt/"protect" the nest whether it's her's or not. Also, they might decide to kindle in one nest.

-- Wed Aug 13, 2014 5:35...

    Anyone have any cool designs?

All of the above :) Plus, a "sandbox" of dirt to dig in, or sticks to chew and toss, or bottle caps to push around.

    NC Silver Foxes for sale!

My Ink Blot x Jasper litter is 8 weeks old today! They are all pedigreed, black Silver Fox. There are 3 bucks and 1 doe. These were raised on a no-pellet diet. They live in an outdoor colony set-up. They're socialized- I've yet to meet a rabbit that enjoys being picked up, but these guys do...

    marking litters without tattooing

I'm using magic markers. Just a block of color on the inside tip of each rabbit's ear. For mine, I renew it when it's almost not noticable. That usually happens after 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe mine last longer due to the type of marker I'm using? Or my willingness to let the mark be faded. My...

    Good weight?

Thanks everyone!! OK, then I'm doing well. Those kits are the first generation of kits to be raised on a natural diet from birth. Skysthelimit, I will feed them more mullberry! Right now, they get it abotu once a week, but I'll try to collect some every day. Dood, hopefully mine get 1/3 pound...

    Good weight?

So, at 7 weeks and 1 day old, my Silver Fox kits weigh: (the doe I'm keeping)- 2.64lbs (buck)- 2.5lbs (doe)- 2.49lbs (buck)- 2.46lbs (buck)- 2.33lbs They are gaining .5lbs a week, I think. They grew up on a completely pellet-free natural diet. Is that a good weight? I know that since they are...

    corner huggers

I've never had this problem, so I'm not speaking from experience, but some people say taking the does for a car ride, adding apple cider vinegar to their water, and feeding them BOSS all help to encourage a doe to get in the breeding mood. :)

Wrote a natural feeding article. Critique?

Oh yeah, I forgot about single stoned fruits. I will adjust that. Thanks!!

ALL THE GREAT REASONS to raise rabbits for meat.

I'd much rather eat rabbits that I know with 100% certainty have been raised healthy, happy, and naturally than the meat from the grocery store- it's nicely packaged and people don't realize that it's almost always inhumanely raised (or at the very least, not as happy and healthy as my rabbits...
