Crayonbox of a litter, now 10 weeks old, looking for imput

Thank you. I've never even heard the term Amber in rabbit colors before, I'm glad I asked. Now I just have to look up the genetics, thank you.

Crayonbox of a litter, now 10 weeks old, looking for imput

This litter is by our castor, or chestnut agouti buck Stitch (RedxREW) and out of a black doe(RedxREW). They are full siblings out of different litters and the kits will be used for meat so it doesn't really matter what color they are, I just find the genetics part very interesting. However I...

    A 3 wk nzw died

I use sharpies too. I do black for does and just number 1, 2, 3, etc... and Orange for bucks. Each sunday they get weighed, numbers redrawn in each ear and a gender check. Then I take the weights and put them into excel which plots it onto a graph for me along with the average for the litter...

    A 3 wk nzw died

Could be dehydration. I know at 3 weeks my kits can all be found at the water bottle at one time or another. When I look at my records at 3 weeks my kits have ranged anywhere from 6.5oz to 12oz all full NZW or MM/NZW crosses. The average for all the kits at 3 weeks comes out for me to be just...

    Kit management

I keep track of which kits are which by numbering them. I use a permanent marker, each kit is assigned a number and gets it printed in both ears. When I do weight and gender checks every Sunday I re-apply the numbers. I use the numbers in my records and also to graph weight gains so I know if...

    Kit management

We also mix litters and sometimes ages. Until yesterday I had two 12week old bucks (just now at 5+lbs)and three 6 week old bucks living in the same cage. Two feeders, three waters and free-fed hay. They got along great until yesterday morning when the two older bucks started chasing eachother...

    Rabbit Railroad

Florida has agricultural stations too. You're supposed to stop and have health papers in hand for any animal traveling with you when you come across one. Texas had a few also.

    Breeding Family?

It's called line-breeding and almost all breeders do this in some way. While most breeders prefer not to breed full siblings, possibly because the gentics are just too close, lots of us breed back to fathers, mothers, cousins, aunts, uncles and half-siblings. It's a great way to sort of 'set'...

    Breeders that Charge for Pedigrees

I don't know. Maybe if I was selling to the show market, it might be worth it all to have a registered buck and doe. A registration number is really just proof that they meet the breed's SOP, doesn't mean the kits are QU free, but I could see buyers looking for that in a pedigree.

Seeking advice on handling my buns

My advice is to keep at it. Talk calmly, move calmly. Holding them with two hands and close to the body works best for me, I think it makes them feel more secure. If they're still not having it, try calmly flipping them upside down with their head/ears tucked in the crook of your elbow next to...

    Early Nester

True. Last night was 40 and by thursday it's supposed to be back in the 80's. There was even more fur this morning, I had to stick my fingers in to be sure there weren't any kits hidden. I'm really proud of Bride, she did such a great job as a first time mom. Raised both litters of kits, hers...

    Early Nester

Bride is due on 4/27 but I caught her digging in her hay this morning. So I re-scrubbed and sanitized her nest box and put it into place, thinking maybe she was ready to start building. I came back something like 2 hours later and she had moved ALL of her hay into the nest box and started...

    Best Book?

I did a quick search, but didn't see exactly what I was looking for, so please excuse me if there are a 1000 posts identical to this one. I'd love to get ahold of a book on color and genetics. It must have lots of pictures for examples, from a description I have no idea how your supposed to...

Free Worm Raising Book on Amazon

My mom and I both have kindles but we also use the PC reader. My reader is attached to her account and her PC reader is attached to mine, this way we can easily share each of our extensive libraries with eachother. We started doing this before Kindle started allowing you to 'loan' books. Works...
