Best Nest Box Dimensions for Mini Rex?

I thought about those, but my NZ doe trashed a cardboard box in about 15 minutes. I don't have any problem cleaning the nest boxes--just give them a thorough soaking of strong vinegar water, then let them sanitize in the sun. And of course, each doe gets her own.

    It is still rough

I think it's actually a good thing that it's still tough. Just goes to show that you don't have a callous disregard for life. We're pretty soft-hearted here. Even spiders & bugs get escorted outside most of the time. We don't eat our bunnies, and even our laying hens die of old age. The bunnies...

    Pricing nest boxes?

I have a problem with using "processed" lumber like MDF or OSB. I only used kiln-dried pine boards for my nest boxes. Don't paint them either as bunnies tend to chew on things. I build my own beehives, so I usually have appropriate dimensional lumber around. Having said that, I just built two...

Best Nest Box Dimensions for Mini Rex?

I need to build some nest boxes for my MR does, and I'm finding conflicting info about the best dimensions. There doesn't seem to be a dispute about the 6" depth, just the width & length. Does will be in outdoor maternity cages, inside a roofed hutch, & in a permanently shaded area. Mamas will...

Help! Broken Buck With Pee Stains

Yep, I'd say proportionally, they're just about as bad as a billy goat.

April 16 kit pulling fur and building nest

I had one of my Just Bunnies** do that, too. And she'd never been in with a buck, just in an adjacent cage. He's good, but he's not THAT good. After a week or so, she stopped nest building & fur pulling. She's still next door to him although I don't plan to breed her. Keeps him calm & they can...

    Hoarders featuring rabbits

This is going to come as a shock, but most people have hoarding tendencies. Our bodies are literally designed to hoard calories in case of famine. True hoarding is a serious mental disorder, and as one of the other posters noted, related to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Like OCD, it focuses on...

My cute lionhead from an auction!

Those are going to be some beautiful babies! Where do you find small animal auctions? We only have large livestock ones around here. Otherwise, we're stuck with whatever shows up at Tractor Supply animal swaps.

    Alfalfa Hay Allergy?

My little Mini Rex, Cabrillo, had some slight nasal discharge a week or so ago. This appeared right after I had given him some new alfalfa hay from Southern States. I held off from the hay thinking that a piece might have gotten up his nose. This particular bale has lots of loose leaves in it...

Trying to figure this boy out

A little over a year old. His former owners got him May 1, 2013 when he was about 6 weeks old. So I'm assigning him the same birthday as Hubby--March 20. I figure that's close enough, & easy to remember. He's a real stinker. Loves hanging outside with the ladies. And definitely fully equipped...

Trying to figure this boy out

There's nothing "mini" about him. I'll try to get a weight. Not sure if this will work, but will have Hubby hold him while Hubby gets on the digital bathroom scale. Not sure if it will weigh anything less than 10#

    MIni Rex with nasal discharge

Thanks, Miss M. I've been reading some of the horror stories. Yikes! Hubby spent most of the afternoon scrubbing down the parrot cages. He was within 10 feet of Cabrillo and said he never did hear another sneeze. I also checked Cabrillo's paws (he's a Californian) and no sign of boogies on...

Trying to figure this boy out

Okay, I got the boy outside for some better pix. Please excuse the cage--I wire the bottoms of junk cages & use them for some outside R&R. The first shows something I should have mentioned before. He has this weird ridge of fur running along his spine. With his coloration, it almost reminding...

Trying to figure this boy out

I was recently "gifted" with a huge, very spoiled lop named Cadbury. He's obviously a lop, but I have no idea which variety. I've seen a fully grown Holland lop, and he's bigger than that. I haven't tried to weigh him, but he's about as long as my NZ doe, but much rounder. I usually try to...

    What Breed is This Rabbit?

She looks a LOT like my Agouti NZ buck. Of course, that's what I was told he was when I adopted him. As for previous owners, several years back we adopted a sweet cuddle muffin named Princess. Only when lifting "her" out of her cage for transport, it was quite evident we were dealing with a...
