Lets see if this works. If it does, this is my *final* (I think) report for my necropsy I had on a dead bunny.
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B3EO-yAlm0ksdDNtTE1DRGxTTVE
Turns out my original diagnosis was pretty solid. Lots of cocci, which caused dysbiosis (messed up gut flora/function) and overgrowth of Clostridium perfringens, causing various gut lesions/necrosis and septicemia which caused septic pneumonia. Pneumonia was very, very mild and only detected via histology... so definetely not pasteurella, just septic pneumonia.
Paid 96.00 for a vet consultation on 12/31/12, during which I enjoyed bouncing ideas off the vet but didn't garner any new information or insights - vet simply agreed with my plans for tackling the disease.
Treated for 2 days with Baycox last weekend per the newest exotic animal (includes rabbits) formulary on all adults, as well as a young asymptomatic litter. Will be continuing to brush cages with wire brush, and will start soaking with ammonia, and rinsing with water for the next few weekends. No hose that won't freeze, so I plan on using our little hand pump garden sprayers to apply the ammonia/water. Planning on doing a herdwide treatment sometime in there with Dimethox powder, as I really need to lower the amount in the environment by treating adults who are the shedders and cleaning the environment (again!).
Hoping this works. Hold on all sales until Spring, and if everything stays healthy I can consider selling some again. Just got happy news that I have 4 new litters - 1 SF and 2 NZ - born today. If the problem perpetuates, then it will be grounds for eliminating the entire herd and starting fresh with the new rabbitry we're building come March.
