Anyone ever grow these? Do they produce a leafy green like a beet? I'm thinking about growing some to feed the rabbits. Thoughts and opinion?

I do not know, but I am going to watch this thread! We do have a thread about A&M feeding sweet potato vines.

I am planning on planting some and the red. I have read several places how good they are for rabbits. Read something where a man could not put weight on his show rabbit and gave it to somebody or something, but this person had the rabbit for the winter and fed the mangels and later rabbit won best of show. Here is another article I read. http://www.sufficientself.com/forum/vie ... hp?id=8116

__________ Sat Sep 22, 2012 10:20 am __________

I started 5 sweet potatoes (one for each rabbit) and 3 have purple sprouts. One has 5 sprouts already. I am going to start 5 more for the baby rabbits. I started some a few years ago for my kids because my mother always had one in the kitchen when we were kids, but my kids thought they were weird and now think I AM WEIRD.

You most likely are. Welcome to the club. You are among (weird) friends here. ;)

I wish I had some sweet potatoes to sprout... I guess a trip to the produce section will be in order.

Just wait. You go organic and start feeding you plants, bm(s) "bunny berries", but they will be thinking that your feeding s__t, to your plants. It is strange how many advocate eating organic, but have no idea, why. That it is the probiotics / beneficial bacteria, that help not only them, but the plants, too!

Feed the plants to the animals and the animal manure to the plants. Nature has it all worked out.
