The flies went crazy last night. What is your favorite method of fly control? I am letting my chickens in under the cages for a few hours at night and will get the fly strips hanging today.

Dan

Is your rabbitry small? The outdoor misting fan I bought to keep my rabbits cool said it is great for insect control, and it seems to be working. I have very few flies since I started using it. But it only mists about 10 feet, so I plan to add another next year. Cost $60 at wal-mart.

We've had nasty fly problems this year in WIsconsin. ewwww icky beasties. (last night it was moths tho. holy moly. there must have been a thousand of the buggers flying around in the colony)

I've been sprinkling SEVIN around on the ground...and DE. Don't know which one does it, or if they both do, but once I started, the flies were down to manageable.

DW is at Wally World now looking at the misters for heat control.
I have a Barn in a Box set it has stayed pretty cool with just a few flies in there until the last 2 days, (we have not had the breeze either). I was just out topping off waters the chickens have the flies hiding right now.

Does anybody use bug zappers in side their rabbit barn?

Bug Zappers attract insects!!! They should be positioned outside a building-- away from the entrances--like by 100 feet. You do not want to be drawing insects into the animal living areas-- you want to entice them away--
then the chickens can feast on blackened insects away from the rabbits--

Barn swallows. Unfortunately they are not a controllable method but bugs are not a problem at my mom's house. We don't even vaccinate the livestock against most diseases because there are no bugs to carry them to the stable and pastures.

erect bat houses nearby, too--

I got these things from Family farm and home or tractor supply I cant recall which but they are these fly collectors. you just add the solution in it to water and the flies collect has done better than barn swallows bats or anything else i have almost no flies now well worth the investment and they are not that pricey

I have very few fly problems and I attribute it mostly to a hungry garden. I never accumulate enough rabbit manure for them to build up. There is always someplace in the garden that needs a boost.
