I have the chance to purchase a beautifully built black holland, I know you can breed with many colors but what would be best if I loved her type but don't want alot of blacks in my litters because they don't sell well in my area. Sorry for the ignorance on this subject! Also, what about breeding black to black chinchilla? Or black to tris? Please give me an idea of what I could possibly get as I am so confused with the colors! I want to be able to get show quality hollands and breed to better my herd. I am trying to do it the right way. I have blues, tris, harlies, chocolate. Thanks!

Don't breed black to tri's - you will get harlequinzed chestnuts and torted harlequins

Black is very dominant and you really need to know what colour recessives the doe has to make a judgement.

You could breed her to your self blue or self chocolate but unless she carries dilute or chocolate you might end up with 100% black instead of 50% black 50% blue or 50% black 50% chocolate

Thanks Dood, that makes sense. She supposedly has a chocolate backround but I don't need another chocolate, just loved her crown really. As for harliquinized chestnut, what would you breed to one of those, as I have one and just bred him to a black/orange tri. What might be the outcome? Both built well, but might move him on if I can't use him. Pet him out? Thanks for your help

Oh yeah, I knew tris are and harlis aren't, but was wondering if chestnut tris are? I mean chestnut/orange/white. Trying decide whether I should keep him. You all are so much help, really appreciate it!

Dood - We have 15 day old kits from our pure black buck and our broken-tort-black doe. Here is what we ended up with.

8 born, 1 died, 1 is a runt (not pictured) being fostered by a Lionhead doe.

Looks like a nice set of various colors.
