Each time something strongly scented starts to bloom a few of my rabbits sneeze for a day or two before getting use to it. First it was the Wisteria, then it was the Honey Bush and now its the Jasmine.

BUT!

One of my keeper kits is sneezing and has wet paws too!

Nothing new has been introduced to the barn in the last few days except the overpowering smell of Jasmine, no new rabbits, hay, feed, nothing. And nothing new for many months either.

Should I cull to be safe? If it wasn't an important to me kit it would have been gone the instant I found it today but I thought I would ask before culling, just this once.

Any chance it got its paws wet in a crock?

What color nose discharge do you see? Are the paws matted (dry spiky feel), not just wet?

If the discharge is clear, the bun probably has allergies. If it isn't, you should probably cull.

Some would cull anyway, for any sneezing, allergy or no. It's all a matter of what you are willing to deal with in your rabbits. I had a sneezing doe, who gave me sneezing kits. It was allergies, and I just overlooked it. These were meat buns, so it wasn't like I was passing along a sneezer to someone else.

Allergies would definitely be among the lesser health issues, but it is still a health issue. But it all depends on how important this kit is to you, and weighing that against the slightly less-than-perfect health.

The discharge is totally clear and the paws look like it jumped into a crock of water but they have a watering system so not just water.

I only learned last year that my buns have allergies when we moved states. My entire herd started sneezing when the tree over them opened up its little brown flowers. After I got my heart started again after hearing them all, I twigged to what it was when I had burning itching eyes when near it.

Think I will keep an eye on it. If it continues at this level it can go but if it tappers off it will stay long enough to see if it makes the cut. Its bad luck is there are three in that litter the same color so it can be a spare.

-- Tue May 20, 2014 9:11 am --

Sadly I had to cull that one. :( It was just getting worse and worse but its four sibs are doing fine and the doe is ready to breed again. Shall cross her with the broken black buck this time.

The fur on these kits is amazing! Cant wait for them to grow and breed and see what we get with generation two.
