alrighty, since i will be getting my buns this weekend i will be buying feed. now first i have to buy feed from tractor supply company. but i hope to have things worked out with my regular feed place (where i have been buying my goat feed) before i go through one 50 pound bag. so "producers pride rabbit feed" is what i am thinking right now.

would a differnt brand from TSC be better? atl least until i can get a better supply from elsewhere. i know i have heard from people that TSC isnt so great for buying your feed.
thoughts? thanks!

I buy different brands, it all depends on what is on sale. I have used that feed before, also purina and currently using manna pro. So far all my rabbits are doing fine, keeping weight on producing kits. They dont seem to mind the switch in food.

OGG, your best bet, if possible, is to start them with whatever they are being fed at the present home. Then you can transition them to whatever brand you prefer. This avoids having multiple stresses on the rabbits - new home, new owner and new food - all at once.

When possible I try to buy feed from a mill as close as possible. It loses freshness fast when it's shipped in a hot truck and stored in a metal warehouse. I'm presently using feed milled in Perris CA, not too far from San Diego. They grow a lot of alfalfa in Perris so the alfalfa they use is probably also local. The pellets are a nice bright green when I get them and smell very fresh.

Hoodat, I'd be interested in those pellets- I wonder if they are available in Bakersfield?

If you're shopping at TSC, try getting your local store to bring in some Manna Pro Sho Formula feed for you. Their Pro formula is a good all-around, affordable feed for general rabbit raising, but Sho is their most complete all-around feed, and their own feed charts prove it.

I've read the ingredient labels on their "Producers Pride" feed and it leaves alot to be desired IMHO.

I don't see why not if you can get a local dealer to order some. They deal with co-ops so you find the same feed under different labels. Some of the ones I get are labeled Kelleys' and sometimes they are labeled Star. The Company is Star Milling Co, Perris and their phone is 951 657 3143. You can give them a call and see if there is a local dealer near you. My rabbits prefer them over any other pellets I've tried.
