Hi. I have some rabbits for show and I wanted to keep some Revolution on-hand in case my rabbits get fleas or mites. The local vets here don't have it, but the one vet we use for our dogs and cats said she would help me if I wanted to order online. I have heard of 1-800-PETMEDS, but don't have a clue how to order this stuff using my vet. Is 1-800-PETMEDS the best place to get Revolution?

Food grade Diatomaceous Earth is very effective for treating fleas and fur mites. Apply it as you would a flea powder. It is completely safe even if consumed, and is a lot more cost effective than Revolution.

A script from a vet is required to get revolution and they won't give it as a preventative for rabbits. Take in someone's cat (plenty on farms) and claim it's for them then measure the dose out of the cat tube with a needle and syringe. That's how I kept it on hand for guinea pigs when doing rescue. The online places you give the pet and vet's name and they call the vet to confirm the dosage and that the med is correct for the animal. Again they won't give it for a rabbit and they won't approve it for an animal they haven't seen. Mine also won't even approve it for dogs without a yearly heartworm test.

Where does one find this product?

You can find it at some feed stores, health food stores, or order it online. It is also sold at Tractor Supply Company as Red Lake Earth.

Thanks.

You're welcome. :)

You can use the DE on your dogs and cats as well, and even sprinkle it along baseboards and on your carpet (sparingly! Vacuums don't like DE!) to control fleas in your home. I would look for the more "pure" forms than the product sold at TSC for indoor applications unless you have reddish carpet! The product I buy is off white, so does not stain.

The Red Earth at TSc is actually gray, but it has a high clay content, and will leave a mess indoors.

Oh- I thought it was red. They all have a high clay content, as far as I know. You don't need much to do an effective job, whether on the animal or on surfaces- I think people use too much and that is why they think it is "messy".

Supposedly the white is purified, lower clay content, and the Red is more clay with sodium bentonite. The betonite is used on dirt roads to bind to the dirt and keep the dust down. It tends to be a bit more like mud than the Pure Earth stuff. It's ok for feeds but I don't like to use it in the house. I gotta say the gray earth is better for the dogs, it doesn't show as much on dark dogs as the Pure Earth does.

Hah! Maybe in a damp environment, but here, bentonite is the bane of our existence! The particles are very fine and aerosolize readily... and when it is wet, it is very slick.

Down south from what I read, in the most humid states. Ohio is mostly clay soil, and in the MetroParks near the creeks and streams, you can collect pure clay right of the side of the creek walls, like that modeling clay we used to use in school. Stuff dies hard as brick though. They say the bentonite has more trace minerals too.
