I bought a young self blue buck about a month ago. He is a gorgeous bunny and I am so excited about him. He is a month and a half away from being old enough to breed and I wanted to inquire on what I would get from him and various does. If you can explain how the two colors combine that would be great.
I have REW, Siamese Sable, Black Otter, and Chestnut Agouti colored does.
Thanks for the help guys.

That is a lot if variables.

You should learn about the different locus and figure out the genotypes for your rabbits to help determine what you'll get.

Here's a good place to start - http://www.threelittleladiesrabbitry.com/colorgenes.php

Then once you get the hang of things - http://www.nockrabbits.com

I will say that your buck carries REW and none of your does likely has Dilute so you wi probably get predominantly blacks and REW with your self based does and chestnuts with the chestnut doe

I agree with Dood, there are too many variables to know what you will get. That Chestnut could carry almost anything. And who knows what the REW actually is. One thing, if you are going for recognized colors, or selling to people who want recognized colors, it's not best practice to breed the Siamese Sable to the Chestnut.

I have been told the no no on the Siamese Sable and Chestnut, but I got all black otters in the last litter, so I think her genes work with the chestnut I have

I love your rabbits- especially your chestnut agouti - that color is so pretty in Jersey Woolies. Not sure about what colors you could get though.
.

Thank you. I try to get quality and variety. I was so excited to see my baby chestnut in the nesting box. I had wanted a chestnut doe to breed back to the chestnut buck and that is what I got. :D

Crossing that sable with the otter can get you silver martens...eventually lol.

It's a good think I kept my black otter buck then. Silver martens are gorgeous.

you bred a chestnut to a siamese sable and got all black otters  how many were in the litter?

The problem is that shaded agoutis are not recognized in any breed but if you just want to sell pets it shouldn't be an issue.

Actually I believe you would get sable martens, silver martens require the chinchilla / dark shaded gene.

I had a litter of four only 3 got big enough that I could tell whether they were black otters or chestnut (they look a like when born) 2 out of the three were show quality (one had blue/grey eyes)

I am not familiar with that color, I will have to look it up.

Eventually, the odds will be that you will get shaded Agoutis. Doesn't always happen in the first turn.

I bred two black otters and got blue, blue otters and rews, no black, but the odds catch up eventually.

I also bred the sable marten to all my otters, and only got one sable marten of four litters (20 kits), but the odds are in favor of the Sable marten.

This is also why I brought the self into the line. I plan one more litter from the chestnut and Siamese sable then she will be bred with the self instead.<br /><br />__________ Sat Sep 21, 2013 10:10 am __________<br /><br />Quick genetic question. What is the genetic code for brokens?
I made spread sheet so I could under stand the genetic codes better but I don't have brokens.

Broken is designated EN which is short for English spot.

A non broken would be - enen
A broken would be - ENen
And a Charlie with two broken genes would be - ENEN

Okay so I think from my REW and the Blue I would get more REWs, maybe a blue. Would brokens be possible from them since REW has a broken black sire?

Yes, there is a 50% chance your REW is really broken but hidden by an all white coat - leave the spots blank until she has kits and you can figure it out.

With a broken black father and siamese sable mother she would be
REW - aa (B locus) __ cc (D locus)__ (E locus)__ (Broken)__en
