Currently feed my rabbits Kaytee Fortie-Diet Pro Health(along with greens and hay). I haven't had any problems with it, but I want to know if there is something better I should/could be feeding them. Thank you :)

Kaytee,
is in my opinion the worst garbage anyone could feed
to a Rabbit or any other animal!
It's loaded with bunches of sugery treats which are:
Detrimental to the rabbits health. It's like giving your child
a bag of Cookies and calling it dinner.
I would purchase an alfalfa based Rabbit pellet from a reputable feed store.
Just a suggestion we all must do what we feel is right for our herd.
Wishing you good luck, and a Merry Christmas!

is this a pet rabbit? if so, look for martin's little friends rabbit food... or any GOOD rabbit food in the pet store.

what you are looking for is a basic pelleted diet. 16% protein with a moderate fat of fat. If it contains yucca in it, all the better as that is good for helping with the smell of rabbit urine.

You do NOT want to purchase a feed that has more than pellets in it. Rabbits don't need those sugary treats, and the type of sunflowers they put in those mixes is not what you really want your bunnies eating. :)

KAYTEE® Supreme™ Fortified Daily Rabbit Blend
Guaranteed Analysis: Crude Protein (min) 16.0%, Crude Fat (min) 2.0%, Crude Fiber (min) 13.0%, Crude Fiber (max) 18.0%, Moisture (max) 12.0%, Calcium (min) 0.5%, Calcium (max) 1.0%, Phosphorus (min) 0.4%, Salt (min) 0.25%, Salt (max) 0.75%, Vitamin A (min) 1,000 IU/lb.

Contains sun-cured alfalfa meal, wheat middlings, ground grain products, plant protein products, cane molasses, salt, lignin sulfonate, dicalcium phosphate, DL-methionine, vitamin A supplement, choline chloride, mixed tocopherols (a preservative), ferrous sulfate, manganous oxide, zinc oxide, riboflavin supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, vitamin E supplement, copper sulfate, niacin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin K activity), rosemary extract, citric acid, cholecalciferol (source of vitamin D3), calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, calcium iodate, biotin, folic acid, cobalt carbonate and sodium selenite

Overall it looks pretty basic. I don't see yucca in it which is nice to have for odour control.

You might want to switch over to this formula rather than the one you are currently using.

Awesome thank you guys! I going to switch for sure. I just wanted to see some suggestions because I've read the back of the food and wasn't really happy about the nutritional value in these pellets. Do you feed lactating mothers different pellets?

__________ Sat Dec 24, 2011 1:01 pm __________

Has anyone tried Sherwood Forest Natural Rabbit Food or Oxbow? I'm going to have show stock eventually. Right now I have 1 doe with her two kits(taking care of them for a friend. I rehomed her a little bit after I took her in and apparently she was pregnant!), my personal pet rabbit, and 2 others for a breeding program (going to acquire more foundation stock in a few months).

My does get the same feed everyone gets.but my does (dwarfs do not usually have big litters.)

The only thing with Oxbow is the insane prices.... That could get SO spendy when feeding a herd of breeding rabbits!

I feed Country Acre, which is something related to Purina, but I forget. lol. The feed store I buy it at calls it something different and are always confused when I ask for Country Acre rabbit feed. I think I'm paying like $14-ish for a 50lb bag. I was going through 2 bags a month, and now I'm just down to 7, and I at the bottom of my feed bin, with another 50lbs to fill it up. So I'm back to 50lbs a month.
