Hey everyone! I’m brand new to rabbits and am having a hard time figuring out genetics. I had an accidental litter and I’m wondering what colours I ended up with.
Mom is a broken black, dad is either a VM harlequin or a blue tri. All are purebred Holland Lops. I will attach pictures! They are 10 days old.
Thank you 🙂

I agree with Cosima that 1 and 2 are blue and black tricolors. (A tri is essentially a broken harlequin.)
Looks like photos #6 and #8 show a harlequinized black otter - see the patchwork on the belly (harlequin) and the tan on its nose markings (otter).
Photos #7 and #9 look like a black silver martin (no tan/fawn color evident on its nose or lap spots) which means you have chinchilla in the mix. (Silver martin = otter + chinchilla, the latter gene preventing expression of the yellow pigment that gives otters their tan markings).
Photo #10 is a broken black otter (otter, not martin, because of the tan color in its ears).
As far as your buck being either a VM harlie or a blue tri (i.e. broken harlequin), he is probably a VM and not broken. The reason I say that, is that if you breed two brokens, you usually get at least a charlie or two, but you did not. Also, that white blaze on the black tri bunny looks suspiciously like a vienna mark (a rabbit can be both VM and broken). I'd love to see a photo of the buck.

Wow, thanks for the info! That was very helpful. There is so much to learn! I have 2 bucks, I will attach pics of them. The last 2 is when they were quite a bit younger.

I was told VM Harlequin and Blue Tri by the breeder. Are Tri and broken the same?
Tri means tricolor (Black, white, and orange) but Broken means halfly or mostly white with color on their backs, heads, and tail

A tricolor is a broken harlequin, so all tris are technically brokens, but not all brokens are tris.

Your bunny that the breeder called a tri looks like it's actually a broken blue tort. Tricolor is a harlequin (e.g. black/orange or blue/fawn) plus the broken gene, which basically covers up some of the color with white on various parts of the body. So sometimes people see three colors on a rabbit and call it a tri, but in this case the three colors can come from the fact that a tort, or tortoiseshell, is an orange rabbit that shades to black on its nose, ears, feet, tail and flanks. In the case of a dilute - blue tort - it is fawn that shades to gray. It is hard to be sure from the photos since you can't see all of his markings, but at least from these pictures your buck's color pattern looks more like that of a tort - blue on his nose and ears and maybe flanks, and fawn everywhere else, rather than the spots of fawn and blue you'd see distributed over his back if he was a tri. (Your two tricolor kits are good examples.) If he *does* have discrete spots of blue and fawn that just aren't visible in these photos, you can be more comfortable calling him a tri.

The harlequin doesn't seem to have any white markings on him, so if he is vienna at all, he's a vienna carrier (VC), not vienna marked (VM). Maybe his white markings just aren't showing up on the photo - look for small white bits on his nose, forehead, toes... Some rabbits with one copy of the vienna gene have those white marks, sometimes with scattered white hairs as well, and those are alled VM. Others with one copy of the gene don't have the white marks (though sometimes they still have stray white hairs) and those are called VC. The only way to be sure a rabbit is a VC is either knowing it had a BEW (blue-eyed white) parent, or test breeding it.

I’m my opinion the "blue tri" is a broken lilac otter or lilac fox. the nose has a ring of orange that torts don’t have.

I don’t think rose is a broken blue. he has agouti markings on his ears nose and eyes. I think he’s a broken opal not a broken blue.

Yes, I noticed that orange at the nose too. Otters don't have that gray shading on the ears/nose/flanks...but you might have hit it on the head with lilac fox, which is a tort with otter markings. (Since fox isn't recognized in any American breed, I'll admit it was off my radar.) I'm not sure whether I'd call it lilac instead of blue; it's pretty pale for blue, but it's a bit dark for lilac, and doesn't have that pinkish tinge that lilacs should have. More photos would be great... :)

Updated pics of my babies! They have grown and changed soo much since my last post.
