Looks like Rex shows up when you Google Castor, I guess that's what that breed calls them?
Chestnut agouti would be what other breeds call this color, right?
Would brown/chocolate otter also be a possibility? They have the lighter rings in the nose, eyes and white cheek/jaw line.
It's pretty!

Thanks!!

Yes, Chestnut Agouti...I have Rex so Castor is more familiar to me... :)

__________ Thu Feb 14, 2013 1:47 pm __________

Chestnut Agouti/Castor do have eye rings, etc...

No. They are agouti (A_) which is dominant to tan (at _) so they may carry a hidden one and be 'A at'. If you test breed them to a self (aa) some of the kits should be otter (at a)

They could be chocolate agouti, it can be hard to tell but their eyes tend to be lighter in comparison to non chocolates.

It's definitely chestnut agouti.... Or whatever your breed calls it.

My breed is a mutt, lol, so...
Dam is a AmChin x Cali and the Sire is a Silver Fox.

The buck is a (self) black with two silver genes.
= aa B_ C_ D_ E_ si si

All the kits will carry silver and even with one copy it may add a few silver hairs in a couple months.

The doe could have a couple genotypes depending on what colour she is.
If she is Cali marked = AA B_ ch_ D_ E_ Si_
If she is chinchilla coloured = AA B_ cchd_ D_ E_ Si_

I see chestnuts and a couple that don't have agouti markings (in the second pic I can see them). What do those ones look like now? I can't see them well and they were younger there, but the second bun, bottom left of the second pic, looks steel? I can't see the other two with dark ears very well.

Yes, there are three that do not have the agouti markings...likely steel.

You can tell agoutis from otters because when the fur comes in, agoutis have ticking and otters don't.

The last picture is the most recent, they are still popples.
Mom has brown eyes.
Mroz and Jasna were both bred to the Silver Fox. Broda was also bred to the same buck, but had all blue-ish kits, on the wire and died.

I've bred the pure AmChin [MROZ] to a SF, tipped steel and black. Bred to a Cali, she had tipped steel, black[BRODA] and one light chin[JASNA].

This is the black doe, BRODA, full sister to the light ChinX, JASNA. Has half blue and brown eyes, only reason I kept her.

The mother of the kits in question, JASNA. She had 8 kits, 3 black and 5 bicolor.

Mother of both of these does, MROZ. She had 7 kits, 1 bicolor and 6 black.

I guess Castor is what you guys decided the kits were, so that's what bicolor stands for in this situation.

Chestnut agouti would be more appropriate in this case. Actually in other animals, bicolor is used for the tan/otter markings, and agouti is always the wild ticking color.

I thought you meant broken, or they had white areas but I guess they kind of do.

Chestnut, opal, lynx, fawn, red, chinchilla and steel are all part of the agouti colours with ticking on the upper part of the body and lighter colour on the underparts and around eyes and nose.
