Thrianta rabbits?
My wife thinks they are, and I quote, "just sooooo cute!"
And she found a couple for sale. She asked me what I knew about them. Well, I know they are rabbits.

Anyone here keep them? Know anything about them?

I know they are pretty, red, a smaller breed at up to about 6lbs., and most everyone pronounces the name incorrectly, even judges.

It's Tree-on-ta. Not Three-ant-ta.

That's all I've got. ;)

__________ Sun Apr 05, 2015 1:58 pm __________

***I just noticed this was posted in Rabbit Behavioral Issues. I moved it to Breed Discussions.***

Never heard of them till now, but just do a Google search. Plenty of info and pictures there. :)

Apparently this Friday, I'm going to be learning all about them.

__________ Mon Apr 06, 2015 6:11 am __________

I have been doing some research on them this morning. I found that Danny Long raises them. Mr. Long is an ARBA judge, he is the judge who judged the youth mini lops at this past saturdays rabbit show where my daughter's Sr doe and Jr buck each took first place, and her Jr doe took third.
From what I have read, thriantas are a newer breed in the US, only been recognized by the ARBA since about 2005.
The rabbits my wife found are one male and one female. Her early plans are to show them a couple of times, then breed them and then add a second doe. But, our plans on mini lops were to have one buck, one doe. Show them then breed them and show some of the kits. We see how well that plan worked as we currently have 6 mini lops and a litter of 4 with one of them.

It's the second stage of rabbitosis... 'aquring another breed'. :x
Third stage is devoting an entire structure (or room) just to the rabbits.
I understand it's fatal beyond that. :x

Yep... rabbit math strikes again!

I seem to recall that Thriantas are a compact meat breed, and in Alaska they seem to do better than a lot of other breeds, for some reason. :hmm:

Just knuckle under and build a rabbit barn DBA. A 24x36 should help keep your rabbit math under control. At least for a couple years.

A couple of years? only? .... hummm..
I started with a 10x16 ... had to built a 3 hole 3x12 hutch for NZ's. ... then a 10x10 grow out pen... then a 3x8 grow out pen for the lionhead kits ... now turning swing sets into two separate 3x6 cages ....

My whole life has become rabbits, rabbits, rabbits ... they family would institutionalize me, but then they would have to care for them, so the consensus seems to be: to let me stay for abit longer...
