Well, I think she's big enough to figure out the color

Her Mom is a new zealand mix, red in color. Mother has produced; Ruby eyed white, solid black, solid brown, Harlie, and chestnut agouti and whatever this kit is.

Father, new zealand, is gold tipped steel and has produced vienna marked, blue eyed, ruby eyed white, gold tipped steel, chestnut agouti, etc.

By far the Ruby Eyed white outnumber all other colors with both the father and mother.

Her eyes are not red, but have almost a reddish cast to them when the light is right? Which I have not seen in the other kits, except the ruby eyed whites.

She is not the largest, but by far the most friendly. Which for me is much more important for retaining kits. I'm thinking of keeping her.

The darker section of the fur is a greyish color. Not black, not brown. Almost not grey, but maybe a brownish grey? I will have to wait to see how it develops as she grows. It's a nice color and I think the markings are cute.

The kit is a chinchilla, or possibly a shaded, magpie /harli and someone else must be the father.

A red mother that carries REW and a gold tipped steel father that carries REW cannot also carry chinchilla (or shaded)

The other possibility is the buck is not a GOLD tipped steel but is a SILVER or SABLE tipped steel. Given the fact he carries Vienna sable is a definite possibility.

Pictures of the "Brown" kits might help to clarify if we are dealing with sable.

my vote is sable magpie.

what colour was this kit when about 3-5 days old?

My guess is that it was a silvery sort of colour... I've got three in the nest box.. one solid and one broken and one magpie that will most likely look like this when older.

That kit is either chin or sable with ej which means someone's color is not identified correctly. They can't carry chin or sable with rew without being a chin or sable themselves.

Well seeing as I know nothing about genetics and colors I would guess I've misidentified someone!

I will try to get some better close up photos and re look up the colors of the kits each set of parents has had.

Here you can see Pennys color and her reddish cast to her eye balls:

She is soooo pretty! I would love to find a kit like that in a nest box.

Now, may I suggest that she owes her good temperament to the extra handling you are giving her every time you take her out and examine that beautiful coat?

LOL, I handle all my babies. I've noticed that one does kits are AGGRESSIVE to me. While they are truly beautiful those will be for eat only, not for pet for anyone. Which is so strange because the doe is amazingly sweet.

Penny has always had the sweetest babies. One of my males lives with my friend and he's about the nicest buck you would ever meet.
