3mth old Lionhead buck, just started shedding. Optical discharge from one eye, no apparent redness, discharge is clear. Flushed the eye with contact lens solution and applied polysporin eye drops. Eye appears clear of debris and injury. No additional symptoms in the rabbitry - however 2 weeks ago, a doe was culled from the rabbitry for abscesses. Buck is under close observation. Any suggestions or tips? I've been on edge lately, as this quarantine period in the shed is the first time I've ever had illness in the 3 years I have been keeping rabbits, and I have heard too many horror stories about pasteurella wiping out entire herds. I cannot further quarantine the buck as I will not bring any outdoor rabbits into the house. I'm changing clothes in the back yard because I won't even wear the same clothes into the house!!

Sorry that you're having this problem. :( It does sound like it's a lot of work to prevent spreading disease, especially if you have rabbits inside and out!

In my notes I have:
-blot gently with strongly brewed chamomile tea with 1 T honey added - I'm not sure what polysporin is, maybe it works just the same?
-also, you could smear a few drops of tea tree oil, which is a natural antiseptic

Polysporin is a brand that makes antibiotic ointment. They also make eye drops and eye and ear drops. I am a pro at what can and cannot be used on critter eyes, because I have a bulgy eyed chihuahua cross dog who likes to get crud in his eyes and constantly has weepy eyes, lol.
