I had the two week check of one of my does litters and I notice one kit has matted fur just around both eyes. The eyes are both open but the eyelid looks a bit inflamed. At two weeks I can't pull it off the mom yet. Should I just do a hay change, clean the eye with warm water and hope for the best? This is the 4 litter for this doe and I have never had the problem before.

Tea makes a great eyewash, especially chamomile tea. Breast milk also works very well- if you can express a couple drops from the doe and put it in the kit's eye it will likely clear up quickly.

Or you can use the more standard treatments and use ophthalmic ointment or even squirt Vetericyn in the eyes.

The most important thing is to keep the eyes from becoming sealed shut. Bacteria thrive in low light/low oxygen environments, so even if you just use warm water to soak the mucous off so the eye can open, they will die off.

Not a lot of change. Eyes are open, just a little inflamed around the eye with some matted fur. They are all out of the nestbox every time I check on them but their feet are still not quite big enough for the wire.

It is important when you clean the eye that you do not inflame the eyelids by rubbing. Not saying you are doing this... just saying that too thorough a cleaning can actually make the problem worse. Just apply the tea as a compress without any movement. It soothes and is mildly antibacterial. You want to avoid any manual irritation of the membranes.
