This is a cute little weed that grows in the shade, especially near the house where I water. It looks tasty- is it edible?

Here it is with a flower:

With alyssum for size comparison:

I'm guessing chickweed. Best to check with the county extension agent.

Thanks! I think I just need to invite the county extension agent over for dinner- I have so may questions, rabbit and otherwise!

We also have some of that growing in the pear/pecan Orchard, and I have been wondering what it was. I was thinking it was Chickweed to, but not quite sure. I would love to be able to add it the the rabbit menu!

Do a Google image search for chickweed and compare your plant to the results. It doesn't look exactly like the chickweed we have here, which is straggly and rather sparse, but your picture, MamaSheepdog, does resemble many of the pictures that come up in the image search. If it is chickweed, it is a very good plant for the rabbits... so well worthwhile making a positive ID.

this is not chickweed variety that I can find-- I need some extra information on this plant-- concerning number of petals on the flower, and the edge of the leaf!!! No matter how much I enlarge the picture, I cant se whatI need-- The world must be getting ypunger-- cuz I am not geting older!

That looks like common chickweed. There are three varieties, common, star and mouse ear chickweed. They are all edible by both humans and animals. My rabbits will eat it but they aren't enthusiastic about it.
Be careful not to confuse it with scarlet pimpernell which is poisonous to rabbits. The plants themselves are easily confused but if you wait till it has flowers the chickweed flower is white and shaped like a little daisy and the pimpernell is bright orange and sort of buttercup shaped.
