My kits are 16 days old today (Florida Whites). I'm concerned that they could get up inside the water dish I have in the cage and drown because they are soo small. What do you use to water the young kits?

I make mine learn how to use a water bottle. Usually mom will teach them, if not I give them some direction.

If not bottle, you could just use a smaller crock to where if they climbed in they can just climb right back out.

When my automatic water system shattered during a freeze this winter, I bought a bunch of shallow glass candy bowls at the dollar store. They are heart and star shaped, and just a little over 2" tall.

I'm sure a little bunny could easily hop out of one.

Here is Queen, my Gen I Leonis Rex doe with her bowl:

As long as they aren't sick, bowl isn't more than 2in or the kits aren't too young, they should be fine with a crock.

I just went outside to do a little maintenance to the cages when I saw a little one jump right into Sugar's water bowl attached to the side of the cage. I stood by just in case I had to do a rescue. After about a minute or so, the little one got out on his own. Whew.... What a relief. Now I know that I don't have to worry about them drowning. :) I guess the jar with the water in it that I left for them on the cage floor ain't cuttin' it.

__________ Sat Apr 27, 2013 9:34 am __________

I'm gonna have to remember to take my camera out there every time I go check on the rabbits.

Spoiled bunnies!

How many rabbits do you know that have their own swimming pool?

Yes, indeed. That is your mission, should you decide to accept it! :p
