What's your experience with VetRx? It says it is a preventative.... does it work? Could I treat my two month old french lops before they leave just to prevent vulnerability? Are they too young? How much do I use?

I don't know about the VetRX but I wanted to say...french lops?! I love french lops! :) Such a wonderful breed that you just don't see enough of anymore. I have one and can't find anymore. :( Back in the 80s, I used to raise them. :)
Anyway are you concerned they are exposed to something and or are you just wanting to protect them to keep them from getting something?

Yep, French Lops! I started raising them about a year ago, it seems like forever! I would like to protect them from their new homes just in case they have snuffles, maybe give them a head start so they will be a little less vulnerable.

I've never tried it because i dont believe the ingredients have any medicinal qualities
Made with 3.3% (v-v) alcohol U.S.P. The mixture contains Canada balsam, camphor, oil origanum, oil rosemary, blended in a corn oil base.

Are you worried they might have snuffles now or worried about their new home? I don't know about vetrx but if they might have a illness I would not sell them.

No, no possible way they could have it. They have not been exposed to ANY other rabbits within the last month. Even then, all I did was pet a different rabbit. No signs of that rabbit having any illness either.

I am worried about their new home, and figured it might protect against mites and snuffles for a bit. I just don't want them to be very stressed and be vulnerable.

__________ Thu Jun 20, 2013 6:45 pm __________

Well, it is like an herbal remedy. It might not work, or maybe it will, but some herbs can actually do amazing things. My mom studies herb qualities/healing herbs and stuff like that, and some of it actually has worked for sicknesses! It kept us from getting the swine flu once.

VetRX,
was used in the 1950's
it was called save the Baby.
Used to stop sneezing.
I don't believe that it ever really worked.
The only thing it will do for Rabbits is:
Mask the symptoms. Many used to stick it up their rabbits nose
to prevent seeing the signs of Snuffles. It is NOT
a cure, I would not use it nor would I suggest it's use.
That stated, it is up to the individual to make the choice
as to what they are comfortable with.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

What I would do is research herbs that boost the immune system and see which would be most effective. We just added a thread on herbs for rabbits. You should check it out!
But I wouldn't worry about your bunnies going to new homes, they should be fine. :)

VetRx prevents NOTHING...except being able to actually tell if a rabbit is sick or not. It will simply mask any symptoms, as OtterSatin said.

it has active ingredients that have been proven effective...
FOR RELIEF of URI symptoms
the oregano oil is a anti-bacterial, but the rest is URI symptom relief.
OH and it'll smell good.

As for herbals not being effective, well, better tell the Pharmacopoeia, they still list stuff like Laudanum and B&O (belladonna and opiates)
Oh, and I've used LOTS of Benzoin Tincture... but that's a different use of Balsam.
