Wondering what you all think of my 4/5 month old Holland Lop Buck? He's purebred. First picture is from about a month ago, second picture is pretty recent. :) Thanks! :bunnyhop:

Surprised you haven't had any comments, nice looking guy. He has a lot of good points, I like his head and ears, I think his crown is good (hard to tell placement from the photos) He looks a touch undercut behind as you want them full to the table, bone looks decent and hard to tell mass without a front shot. Overall cute guy :)

Have you shown him? Always better to evaluate in person rather than pictures.

Thanks, dangerbunny! :)

I haven't shown him yet, but would like to. Hopefully this coming year I'll show him and a couple others. I would upload a front picture of him, but for some reason it's not letting me :(
Just wondering, he has a tiny bit of white on his nose, very little, would he get DQ'd for that?

There's a picture showing it here: http://cedarpointkikos.com/holland-lop-bucks/

__________ Sat Jan 17, 2015 8:31 pm __________

Anyone else? :)

Very cute. Love his head, my buck has a similar squashed face, too hard not to kiss it whenever I see him.

He's very pretty, but I love brokens, so I'm biased :p

Nice shape to his head and decent looking crown. Ears are nice and short but look a little folded on the upper side...could be just from how he is holding them too. His head mount looks a bit low, but being nit picky. Looks long in shoulder and midsection, he gives the impression of being undercut a bit BUT he is over posed so that could be why he looks under cut. His front feet should not touch his back feet when posed up. If he can't pose otherwise, it may be a structural issue that causes him not to pose up correctly. Looks to have good bone and width from looking at front picture on the site link. Looks like has a nice full chest as well, but hard to tell with out a good front. He looks like one I'd take to the tables, definitely see how he does :) The white on his nose is not a dq. They will dq if he has excessive white hairs in the black, but it is a judges call and I have seen this rarely with HLs.

Thanks CochinBrahmaLover & Rebel.Rose.Rabbitry! :D It's nice to get some honest thoughts on him :)

I'm still figuring out the best way to pose my Hollands, so he's a "poser-in-the-works" :) It's good to know that the white on his nose isn't a dq...was a bit worried it was :) Looking forward to showing him!

I've posted a front picture of him here: http://cedarpointkikos.com/young-holland-lops/

Oh, and how does Abriana look? Even though she's not posed :) She's around 6/7 weeks old in those pictures. Her ear coloring is considered 'excessive white hairs', right?

I know nothing of rabbit standards, so can't help you there... but enjoyed seeing your babies. The little white guy with a little black from Adina's litter is precious!

Thanks, JenerationX! I so wish that one was a doe, but the cutest, typiest Hollands ALWAYS seem to be bucks, lol! :) I kept his sister, Alishea, though. Abriana is out of her :)

Ive never bred Hollands so cannot help on assessing your bucks conformation

Even in other rabbit breeds the males are "blockier" and since Hollands are a "cobby" breed the boys will always be better specimens :( but I had a similar problem with my Netherland Dwarfs especially since I only bred to false dwarf females :) I had to keep an eye on my does sons and replace any females who didn't produce "typey" boys and kept the BUD's from litters with the best males.

Yup, testosterone makes em chunkier, I wouldn't keep a fine boned buck because he will likely produce very fine boned does.

He's young yet, will likely get more mass with age, one reason Hollands are so hard is some lines take ages to mature (1-2 years) One of the best ways to check for bone is to flip him over and look at his hind feet, they should be thick, short and straight, spaced wider on the body is good too. Picture l__l over l_l

Check out some of the top breeders for a good mental image of bone, DTL is producing some big boned Hollands, I like Camelot's bunnies a lot. Lots of great breeders out there. I always recommend this great website for basic rabbit stuff, this article explains type well, http://www.thenaturetrail.com/rabbit-ju ... land-lops/

Thanks for that tip, dangerbunny! I'll have a try with that :)

What are some other good bloodlines? I'm having a bit of trouble finding out which ones are really good.
I like Saynora and Jana's lines, though. :)

Oh there is loads of good breeders, you can check out show results and see who is placing well. Also looking at the pedigree of rabbits you really like can give you a hint. Some breeders don't have websites and this is by no means a comprehensive list, best thing is to read the SOP and find breeders who are breeding your interpretation of the perfect Holland.

Breeders I admire:

http://luvlops.com/

These breeders also have good articles and information on their pages:

Ok, thanks!

Just wondering, have you ever hear of the rabbitry/rabbits of Bucks Gone Wild? Apparently he (I think his name is Mark Buckley) shows all over Canada and the U.S.

I don't see any of them with excessive white hairs in my opinion, the one with the ear streaks I see a several of them on the tables now and then. I would say he's medium bone, he is at that awful ugly stage based on age on page though. It is not good to try to look at them and judge them when they hit that spot, every thing tends to fall apart (some way worse than others). However, if they have bone at 4-6 weeks, I find in the lines I breed they have it when they finally mature (plus some) at 2 years. Now...having the patients to grow that out is trying...

Breeders...DTL has some VERY nice wide HLs. Himidari (spelling may be off, it is VERY hard to pull out top of head), Campo's (love them, they are THE widest chin/chocolate chins/steels I've seen), THF Saynora, Saynora, Siblings, Camelot's, Corbin's.

Twono is going to his FIRST show this Saturday!!! Can't wait to see how he places :) His type has been improving...need to get you all a new picture of him!

Note: he wasn't behaving that picture taking day! He'd pose too high, or lay down, or sit up with front feet dangling, or look at you saying "I'm soo sweet!". yeah. sure. So he's not posed proper, I know, but it gives you an idea of how he's changing!

Anyway, he went to a show Saturday and the judge said he was too wide in his back end? This was a DR&CBA show, so they didn't pose them "up" but flat on the table...

Tryin' to get the pictures uploaded...for some reason it's not working :)
