My nursing doe (kits are 4 weeks) is sneezing~ I'd say this is the third day/ third time I've seen it.
She sneezes a dozen or more times in a go.
I just inspected the whole litter and the doe.
Her eyes and nose are perfect, no signs of wetness or discharge, colour is great.
Babes are perfect.

Seeing no signs of illness, and having read that babies chewing pellets in half can make dust (and I can attest to this by the amount of dust under the j-feeder!), PLUS I got different hay on Tuesday, which is much dustier than what we had, I am really thinking it could just be dust up the nose and when she gets excited (ie after breeding Tuesday, being examined tonight) it gets more irritating for her?

None of the other rabbits outside her pen are sneezy, nor are her kits (all eating same hay/pellets).
Is it safe to assume an irritant at this point?
I could separate her from the kits as they are pellet and hay devouring pirhanas, but I'd rather leave her if no cause for alarm.

Thanks for your input!

Have a look to see if there is any hay caught in her nose, and scout around for anything else that can be irritating.

It's probably just an irritant....but keep a seriously close eye on her.
Disease is always possible.
I think most of us have experienced having just one rabbit break with white snot seemingly out of the blue.

I'm suspecting the new hay. "Much dustier" could mean that it's just very dusty and that's irritating her. It could also mean mold. Have you smelled the hay?

My sneezing doe is just fine-- no more sneezing!
She had no snot at all.

BUT I have another doe, my 12 week Cali, who started sneezing :(
She has just been separated from her cage mate (puberty) and put in her nice new cage, with a doe on one side and her former/future mate on the other. She is curious, hungry and bright eyed.

The weather here went from 30C to 3C overnight.

What is putting the fear into me is that her one nostril is showing a little snot-- whitish, definitely not clear. Nothing on her paws, but she sneezed and I saw a bit hit the resting board. No snuffling, no eye discharge, like I said she looks perfect.
She was in much closer quarters until Sunday, so I can't blame dust on it now like the other doe.

With a sneezing doe who stopped and is fine I am hesitant to cull.
But that bit of snot has me freaked out (I have 4 week old babies and 2 pregnant does).
And I would have to do the deed myself.

What is my window here?
All have been exposed to one another up to now.
I can isolate her.
How quickly would I see progress to help decide?
Would worsening = more snot/congestion?

I know I might have to do it, but don't feel like I MUST yet.

Since you can isolate her, I would go ahead and do it.

The weather could be all that's wrong with her. That's a pretty drastic temperature change, and I have had a couple of rabbits have minor issues with swings like that. I'd isolate and watch her. As long as it does not get worse and improves over the next few days, I'd figure it was the weather. Or that she got something stuck up her nose. Also, if she was around the dust before Sunday or since Sunday, I wouldn't count the dust out. Even if it's the former, rabbits have complex sinus systems, and she may just now be getting it out.

Did you figure anything out about the hay?

Thank you for a hope :)
I was going through people I know (in my mind) to try and find someone who would be able to help me do it. I have a name or two now lol

I have set her apart and we'll see.
I keep thinking "hoofbeats mean horses not zebras" -- given the other sneezer!

I won't use the hay again, we used it up but I'll get something else.
It came from the barn where my daughter rides and I know they give their horses the best--so it may just have been the dryness, the mix, whatever.

Thank you!
I'll be watching her closely!
