We're getting things together and were thing about transport. I want to make sure the waste is keep separate from the buns. It's going to be a long car ride. We have a bird cage that is divided in half. The whole cage is 30"Lx18"Dx16"T (leaving each side to be 15"x18"x16") with the door openings each measuring 8"Wx6"T. We're getting a trio of 8wk old NZWs. Would this be a good enough size cage for the buns? Maybe the buck on 1 side and the 2 does on the other, or maybe 1 on each side and a second cage for the 3rd? :? The truck ride will be about an hour long. We don't want to have them in the bed of the truck, could be :nightmare: for the little ones. And the back seat is just big enough for the bird cage and maybe the cat carrier. Would love yalls' thoughts. Thank you in advance.

If they have always been caged together, putting two together might be ok, but if they are use to their own cages and you put them together, even just for transport, they might fight.
Do you have three cardboard boxes? I would toss a couple handfuls of pine shavings in the bottom of a few cardboard boxes and go that rout if you don't have a carrier.

I agree with DBA. Fighting would be a bigger worry for me than rabbit poo. Just put some hay or shavings in the bottom of the box - maybe newspaper at the very bottom and hay or shavings on top of the newspaper. That should take care of the poo/pee issue.

Water if the trip is gonna be very long or very hot. Food not necessary. Make sure the box is ventilated - don't want the rabbit to suffocate.

The boxes that computer paper comes in are a good size.

If the rabbits are going to be in the bed of a pickup truck, then I'd recommend an actual pen. Place them up against the cap to minimize the wind. If it's gonna be a sunny day, then make sure the rabbits are shaded. For that, I'd use plywood and not a tarp. The tarp is gonna flap no matter how well you tie it down and that would likely drive the rabbits crazy.

Hope that helps.

If you have a divided cage and a cat carrier you should be fine just put the does in the divided cage and the buck in the cat carrier or use cardboard boxes as stated above they wont need food or water for an hour/hour and a half trip, with wood chips to soak up any urine. Keep them in the cab and out of the wind & sun, ream boxes/paper boxes would work well but you would need to keep the lids fastened down and remember they could chew through the cardboard. Could maybe some one loan you a couple more cat carriers? 8 weeks old they should be fair size but not huge. JMO

My meat mutts are about 4 1/2 lbs at 8 weeks so you should not need a lot of room..An hour is not that long of a ride I brought home four of that size in two cardboard boxes..one for the boys one for the girls...make sure they are ventilated, but I think the darkness helped to calm them. Yeah I would not put them in the bed of a pick-up. way to scary....I think your cage will work, but have a couple of boxes or cat carriers just in case...

I don't know if the females are from the same litter or not. I'm having Grumpy pick the trio for me. Since this will be our first step into rabbittum. :p I had thought about the fighting. I know if you cram 3 people in the back seat of any car/truck for an hour they can get frustrated and fight. So I don't think rabbits would be any different. We are planing on taking a couple of different creates. The cardboard box sounds like a great idea, but for some reason I have none that would work. But small cages I have in spades.  Found about 20 cages on craigslist for free. So of course I had to go get them. :p  Here's a couple of pics of the bird/rabbit transporter.

Would the doors be big enough to fit the buns through easily or should I adjust the top to flip up?
And Thank you all for your input.
